Whenever I generate a new sequence from the slice sample edit window I run into an error. The first slice is correctly assigned to 001.001.000. Rather than the next slice (and subsequent slices) fall correctly at 001.002.000 it instead falls on 001.001.748 or something like that. If I move the subsequent slices to the correct position then I end up hearing a short silence after the first slice and before the second slice.

Am I trimming my initial sample too short? Maybe quantizing issues? (However I have it set at an unswung 1/16). Thanks!

You may want to try looking at the end margin setting when you slice. Normally, it is set at 15.

How do you trim? Are you doing the 1/16th auto trim (all regions od same length) or are you setting the regions yourself?
Also, you may want to look at how you set the length of the sample and the resulting tempo. I do slice/generate sequence regularly and had no issues so far, except when I have to trim the start of the first region. There usualy the resulting sequence is choppy.

BTW, for me the end margin is set by default to 20, and yes, you need to set it to 0.

Hello there,

im haveing the same issue and i still dont know what im doing wrong.

for example:

- i have a loop, 2 bars, i know its 120 bpm
- i load it to the mpc 4000, sequencer speed is also 120 bpm.
- now i slice it to 16 parts, using the Slice Funtion. i tryed all different combination in the Field "refer to", but i think it should work if i refer to sample or refer to loop, if the sequencer speed is the same like the sample speed? (i also tryed with refer to TRIM)
- after i did this it looks quite nice, the slices sound good and also have the same length
- now when i generate a sequence out of it, i have the same problem like AlexKlax. the notes are not at the position i would expect(001.001.000, 001.002.000 etc..)

my notes are all little bit shorter.

also i chekced my margin settings, i tryed it with 0 and had no success, when i move it to something like 45, i nearly get the length i would expect, but thats not a solution for me...

so what could be the problem?
i dont think the basic loop is the problem...i really checked it, its 120 bpm, 2 bars, when i loop it in ableton it sounds tight, so it cant be that. :hmmm:

im very thankful for any help.

Before you generate a sequence make sure the sequence on the main page is blank, tempo is around the same as your sample and importantly that t/c is set to off 960. That way the timing grid keeps the slices in the original human time.

When slicing the sample it is important to slice by notes or hits in time so precise start and end points is needed when using the 4k regions to get it right. Count out the hits exactly for your regions and adjust.

It may be easier to use a third party editor via aksys or memory stick for large phrases as piano, horns, and whatnots as it is a little difficult to do with even or odd region slices. Or you could use Recycle and load the slices and the midi file. Just convert the key group program to drum program and change the part from instrument to drum.

Good luck and have fun.

Hi There, really thanks for your reply!

I experimented a little bit more yesterday, and its really hard to say, but i think the create sequence function is buggy (i know this sounds stupid since i use v1.71, but i have no other explanation for it)

so, why do i think so?

ok, first about the loop i want to slice:

-first ive loaded the loop to my mpc and set the sequencer speed to the same speed the loop has (125 bpm)
-i created a new programm with just this single loop assigned to pad 1, play mode is set to ONE SHOT.
-then i created a sequence which plays pad 1 at 001.001.000

the result was a nice 4 bar loop which fits perfectly, this means to me that the start and end points of the loop are allready correct, so this cant be the problem when slicing the loop later.

after this, i cleared the whole memory and loaded the loop again.
since i know now the loop start and end points are right, i tryed to slice it, with all the infos ive got (margin set to 0, t/c set to off 960). after that i created a programm and sequence out of it, with the same frustrating results like before.

so,
-the basic sample fits perfectly to 4 bars when loaded alone and loops nice.
-when sliced, the sliced samples all have the same size
-when i create a sequence out of the slices, the notes dont have the same distance between them ? :hmmm:

also, the sliced subSamples sound faster then the original..

what i will try next:

-since i think the slicing works, i will just slice the original sample and make a seq by myself. but then i still have the problem that the sliced parts feel a little bit faster then the original, so i'm not really sure if the mpc changes the speed of my subsamples after slicing them...

if nothing works, i will try Recycle, but this is the emergency plan for me

anyway, i've never managed to re-create a loop out of slices which sounds like the original loop...but this has to be possible, otherwise i can not work with this machine like i want to :smoker:

my dream is to have 128 tracks and on every track a loop which is sliced to 16 parts, including a sequence which plays the orginal loop, but also can be changed easily on the fly. this is my goal, because the mpc would fit perfectly to my environment like that. but for this i must find a mostly automated process, otherwise i will be chopping loops for forever  ^^

regards, keep the good work up, this is a great forum !

Congrats on getting that working.

You should SERIOUSLY consider making the jump to the last firmware 1.71!

yes, version 1.20 which i am now is really buggy in some ways, i cant do a lot of stuff i am used to do in v1.71.
but at least slicing and creating sequences out of it works for me now as i would expect it to work...

i will make all my programms now and go back up to 1.71, sometimes oldies are goldies, also (or specially) in Software :smoker:

i know this is a hack in some ways, but everything that works is allowed with this old babies i think :-D
