gigging with MPC-2500 with xlcd? (fit in a case?)

Thanks TYPO...there is alot to read.I missed the post about having an extension cable.. I did see that about external control on os2xl and that's what I'm trying to decide.... whether or not to get xlcd....This seems like a massive jump from my mpc2000xl..

^^^^im sitting on my hands trying not to get the screen.. every update i fight myself not to buy it. i dont really care about the big screen, its the os that i want. i think the big screen on the 1000 is ugly and my 1000 is a custom job already, she looks like a beauty. the revamped os is what is getting me, and i know it woulnt be long before it passes jjos2xl up..

Personally speaking:

Apart from the additional bulk, there are a few reasons that I'm not jumping on the big lcd and jjos128xl:

JJ already made some changes to jjosxl that have slowed down my workflow and that I'm not happy about.

Here are a few:
1. Changing the NEXT STEP button to only step to events in GRID that are on the same line as the cursor.

2. Making it so that you can't have a single 'audition' pad in TRIM whilst changing both the start and end points with your right hand (the damn cursor keeps flipping from start to end value based on which pad you hit!). It's always frustrated me immensely (I use SHIFT+cursor keys or - + for rapid movements and value changes with my right hand. The last thing I need is to have to also switch pads on my left hand to audition the sample.

3. When you change the loop length of your sequence your LOOP is turned off.


The massive saving grace for me for point 2. is that I now use Non Destructive Chop for chopping everything (NDC doesn't have this cursor jump behaviour). The amazing thing is that you can extract or normalize each chop as well. I use this constantly and love it.
I fear that jjos128xl incorporates all my bad issues and non of the good Non-destructive chop features that I require.

I may be wrong though as I've never used 128xl.. I just really dislike some of jj's more recent (the past year) choice of ""fixes"".

To be fair to jj and mpcstuff though, you will probably have no complaints with the big lcd and jjos128xl.

My personal recommendation would be getting mpc 2500 or,1000 whatever you're preference is, check out free jjos n see if you still feel the need to upgrade. Some missing features like patch phrase might be key feature for some n not for others. So while you're waiting for 128xl getting polished up at least you got still very capable operating system and mpc.

Same here

patched phrase functionality is there in ALL mpc1000/2500 os's. just slice on each transient and then program the pattern and you can change tempo/tune all you want.



this is a lot more powerful than patched phrase because you have individual parameter controls per slice.
