He there people!

My name is Jacob and im new here on the board. Usually you can find me on synthforum.nl

Anyway im using the mpc1000 for a live act.
And im breaking my head about;

How to load a new Program, while im playing?

This is what i came up with so far:..
Via a midi Program Change in mode>pad14
But you can only assign there programs called like ''Grand Piano'' and not my own.
Wouldnt this be possible? To command the mpc with a program change set to my own program to change this automatic while playing?

Im running JJ0S2xl

Your help would be -very much- appreciated!
My gig is over a month im only half way my set (the ram run full now)

Best regards,
Jacob

Hi,
well if you are running JJ there is another sub-forum for that, but forget it now (don't double post).. anyway :smoker:

The Grand Piano and so on.. are just General Midi names..
You have to select a Program Change number on your programs (press window on program name) than it will react to PC written to a sequence.. MPC can do that even many times per second on many tracks simultaneously if you need without any problem (just sayin).

Than you can call any program you want to any track with PC command entered to sequence (mode14 and maybe in mode 15 - i ain't using it, so not sure about it) and it will change programs in automatic manner.

Also, except that^^ you can change programs on outboard synth or in a DAW on main screen in PC field (right bottom corner).

Is this what you wanted to know?

BTW once I made a trick where I had pre-programmed PC changes on a track, without any notes recorded.. and than as I was playing (fingerdrumming) while programs were switching undernieth pads in automatic way.

+ in mode 14 you can select view to see just the PC's alone (or other events)

Thanks for your time and thinking with me.
Sorry about the sub forum, if someone can replace this topic be my guest.

Im probably wanting the inpossible..
The mpc has to load a new program from the harddrive..
Im playing a live set of a hour, this is to much material to load for the 128 ram, in one time for the whole set.

So i was thinking lets load a new program for each new track in my performance, so the ram never runs full.

For example the last sequence of track 1 in my performance is playing, i hit mode>load and load in a new program and start with track 2 of the performance.
I would be happy to do this manuel evertime BUT as soon as i am in the load section the music/sequence stops.

Thats what i want to work around.
The music may not stop.

No, it's impossible.. think about Roland SP series or some cheap alternative to make mix with mpc. You wouldn't even need a mixer, as MPC's input thru function is active in load mode. But, this is "perfect world scheme" :)

Fastest way to clean up MPC for new project is to.. turn it off/on..
So you would need a compact 2ch mixer (even with just volume knobs)..
MPC can crash (very rare), and can freeze while loading one project after another (also rare).

Actually you could do this instead of buying a new bit of hardware that won't necessarily help:

- Have a PROJECT for each group of songs. So if you want some songs to fade smoothly from one to the other you put them in the same project.
- Get sooperlooper on your PC which can be controlled by MIDI.
- Set aside a track in EACH project to control sooperlooper.
- When you reach the end of a song group, record the last few bars into sooperlooper which will then loop them.
- While the song loops, load your next PROJECT which will clear the memory and get everything set up.
- End the loop and start the next song.

Sorry, this isn't very clear but it's just an idea. Of course if you're not taking a computer on stage you can get a looper pedal like the Boss DD2.
