HIP HOP DRUMS

Peace Gods!!
Can anyone advise me on what are the best sounding hip hop drums i can get and where? Aside from sampling them, where can i get some really good and grimey hip hip drum sounds? Does anyone know what drums The Rza used or Dr. Dre, Primo?? I think they have the best sounding drums in hip hop. Cant forget about Prince Paul either!!

but they come from records. You can buy all the drum libraries that you want but if you want that sound, you should go and find the records that have the drums that you are looking for. There are a lot of breaks out there that haven't been used and on top of that, there are so many ways to flip drums that have been used. Do your homework on samples that were used by those artists that you mentioned. You can look it up online or you can be a true head and find that shit while diggin in the field. If you are talking specifically about kicks, snares, and hats, then you will be suprised at how many records out there have them, even crap joints from the dollar bin.

I'm sort of new at the production game or whatever, but I know that the way the drum sounds has more to do with how RZA/Premo/Dre or whoever compressed the samples.

damn, if you don't want to sample, just go buy a mo phatt or something. Your ish won't sound like the producers you mentioned though.

I agree with you all. Might anyone know what records I should get to find thosae breaks & that sound I so desire? I heard someone mention i should by drums from this site? What do y'all say about that?

I have freaked so much ish, that wasn't geared toward hiphop at all. NO ONE CAN SELL HIPHOP, HIPHOP HAS TO BE IN YOU.

the first thing i would cop is the ultimate breaks and beats series. These records were real big in the late 80s and 90s. U will find them usally anywhere dj records are sold.

They use records...and they're drums are dope to you because you can't just go to a store and buy them. Even if you found the break, depending on the press of the record and eq'ing it won't sound the same anyhow. Being unique is half the battle.

I'm not better than anyone in this forum, but I honestly own 400-500 lp's with 1 drum break each. I want variety. It's why people spend $100's of dollars on records. They're not bored or stupid...

Again, I agree with you all, but being a nebiew to a certain degree concerning Hip Hop Drum Sounds, i just have to ask to see what the consensus says. In regards to brother who said the drums have more to do with the way the Producers (RZA, Premo, Dr DRE) compressed their drum samples, can anyone explain this technique to me in detail? Does the XL have this feature?

I make my own drum sounds by filtering and layering Reason is very
good for this sort of thing you should try it sometimes. I do it right in
the Redrum or I edit kicks in Battery either way you can't loose I can
make the dirtiest booming kicks you ever heard.

they probably have access to good outboard gear and eq's. not some cheesy software that try's to emulate these machines. you only sounds as good as your gear.

Oh yeah well you'd be surprised sure it depends on outboard gear
you'd be surprised to know what these producers do to get their
distinctive kicks like me for instance but I wouldnt give up my
formula I suppose you just use out board gear Hungh?

All it takes is experience and the way you process your kicks
alot of the software starts off with 16 bit but you can get it at 24
bit 192kbps with just software meaning no 24/8bus board and
what software do you consider cheesey?
