My first drum machine was a MPC2k and I currently own a MPC3000le. I am glad it is not the other way around... Both machines has different OS and in my opinion, there is definitely a sound difference. I hear it in my samples and music.
I had a backlight issue with my 3000le and I ordered a "do-it-yourself" non-soldering backlight kit from eBay. I believe I paid between $30-$40USD including shipping. He is from the UK. I also was missing buttons (grey buttons, which are more scarce than the original white/beige buttons) luckily, I know Armen and I took it to his shop in NYC and he had the buttons I needed, while I was there, I told him to install the backlight and replace the pads since he had to open the machine anyway. You can try Bruce Forat or VST for the buttons.
thanks for your input. i was looking into that back light but im afraid to open the MP lol and i was looking into forat for pimpin my 3000 but i live in chicago unless i can ship my MP there. is that possible?
Opening up the 3000 is the easy part. It's about 10 screws in total to open up the "hood" of the 3000. Once you get past that part, you have to unmount the plastic casing that surrounds the actual screen and open up the casing. This can be very tedius. You must have patience and make sure to remember how everything comes apart and what screw was used to put everything back together. I was going to install my backlight, but I had Armen do the install cause he had to open my machine anyway. Also, Armen is a recommended Akai Tech so I am confident in his work.
You can ship your unit to Forat or VST there both located in California so the cost to ship will be the same from Chicago. Forat does better work and his customer service skills are second to none. I highly recommend Bruce Forat. Plus, he knows the MPC3000 in and out. He was apart of the design team when Akai and Roger Linn hooked up again to produce the 3000.
