Quick MPC3000 Midi Question

hey folks, just a quick question. I m trying to trigger my synths with the mpc3000 for the first time and have successfully managed to have the first synth playing midi from the mpc output A.

Now, i wanted to add another synth with the Midi Output B, but here it gets confusing.
In the Track Data field i chose a different Channel, but it will still only play midi to synth A. What am i doing wrong?

Oh and the MPC swing on bass synth sounds is freaking huge.

You probably do not want to choose a different MIDI channel in this case, you need to choose a different MIDI port.

So, the synth connected to MPC port A is probably set to MIDI channel 1, so you set that track in the MPC to output to MIDI 1A (channel 1, port A).

The synth you want to connect to MPC port B is probably also set to MIDI channel 1, so you set that track in the MPC to output to MIDI 1B (channel 1, port B).

Just move the MPC cursor to the port field, and change it accordingly (A, B, C, or D).


A single MIDI cable can carry 16 different MIDI channels. So you can link a MIDI cable into one MIDI device, and out that devices MIDI Thru port (or a MIDI Out port that is set to MIDI Thru) and into another MIDI device.

If you set each MIDI device to a different MIDI channel, you can hang 16 different devices off of each of the 4 MPC MIDI output ports.

In your situation, it is probably easier to start with one synth per MPC MIDI output port, and set each synth to channel 1 for each particular port (synth 1=1A, synth 2=1B, synth 3=1C, synth 4=1D, for example).

got it now, thanks. was a bit tricky to find where i can switch ports in the menu but i found it eventually.

One more question, once i record midi into the mpc and want to only delete a single note from what i played, how do i do this? I can only delete the entire thing so far.

Go into step edit, step through with the locate buttons, find it, choose it (if more than one event on that step), delete it by pressing the <Delete> soft key.

Go into record-overdub mode, hold down the erase button, press the pad (or MIDI note on external MIDI keyboard) for the sound that you want to erase just before it is triggered in the MPC sequencer, and release it immediately after it is triggered.
