What I feel Dan is saying is that if you bought the Ren in the past couple of days before the promo went live, they'll back date the promo for you - many companies would do this, but they have to draw a line somewhere. Expecting them to back date by months is generally unreasonable, especially if there's a cost involved for them (iLoks, per user licensing fees to Avid etc).

So I wouldn't expect to get it if you bought the Ren in October - if you do, that's great.

I feel they should give the users Pro Tools Express who first bought the Ren/Studio from Oct - Present. This forum has helped to find bugs and give great ideas as well. We took a big risk purchasing a $1200 controller with brand new software. In my opinion if you take care of your customers then your customers will take care of you.

I would assume Akai would offer it,if previous ren users already had iloks, because then it's just a simple activation code. Simple..

Buying new iloks would be outta the question for all previous ren owners, I think it's reasonable to just ask previous ren users before the promo, to just buy new iloks.

I dont quite follow your rationale. That is not how promotions work, backdated to include old customers. Promotions are there to entice people to buy a product, once you've bought it, they no longer need a sweetener to get your money. A software update, however, is just that and by all accounts this is all you are owed. Missing features and bugfixes. This forum represents a small but vocal percentage of their target market, and yes we do help them, but so do a lot of other people who are not members here. Customers are customers, wherever they are.

I can see why this Pro Tools promotion has come about, to try and nudge people who remain undecided and await 1.3, or those who want 'extra DAW-like features', or to use the Avid connection to gain extra publicity. Judging by some of the reactions here, this is a smart bit of marketing by the Akai boys to reel in a few more new customers. If you want to benefit from a promotion, purchase during the promotional period (unless advised otherwise). Simple really.

I bought one yesterday and emailed Akai support asking about pT express. I don't expect a response, because I have never received one back in all the years I've emailed them. So, Monday I will give them a call.......not expecting anything though

Technically they said the promo started last thursday, so you should be good.

I don't buy the 'risk' argument, most retailers would let you return the Ren if you felt it was too buggy, plus early adopters usually are aware they will be dealing with bugs and are effectively becoming unpaid testers. Nature of the beast, the risk means you get your hands on the latest tech before the more cautious people who are sitting back waiting it out for the bugs to be fixed.

But yes, clearly it would be nice customer service if they did it, I doubt anyone disagrees with that, but I think it's unreasonable to expect it. It's not like Akai have a track record of excelling in customer service.

Isn't there a video a guy pulled up, where akai's dan mentioned he would check into it? we just have to wait and see folk.
