it's not really the fact that akai said pt express will be with 1.3. it's more that akai said something will be free. if akai said there will be Live lite, everyone will be acting the same way. ppl hear something will be free while others didn't when they bought it, will feel they are being cheated out of something.

I agree 100% with Tutor and I forgot whoelse said it, the promo is for new customers. if you bought your ren when it first dropped, then you shouldn't be entitled to this promotion at all. it wouldn't be good business for akai to honor everyone who bought the ren from October to now, akai would be losing money if they did that. could you imagine how many ren units sold since October? you cant just count those of us who are on this forum, we are a small % of their customer base.

that would be the same for us reason users. 6.5 introduced rack extensions, do you think it is fair for those who still use reason 3.0 to get the 6.5 upgrade for free? they only offered the free upgrade to users of 6.0

I'm not sure why there are people complaining about not being able to get a free copy of PT Express. The point of promotion is to get people to buy it. I mean, have you ever had this happen in your life before? You go to the store to buy a laptop when it first comes out. There's a promotion a month after you bought it where each customer gets a free monitor with the purchase of that model. You call in, asking for your free monitor, and they reply "Oh yeah, you bought this laptop before this promotion was even an idea. Of course you can get a free monitor. We'll call you about the next promotion."

No. That never happens, and it won't start now. Plus, Express isn't that great anyway.

Just talked to them on the phone. It's not offered to previous customers.

I agree with what you said, but how about how Native Instruments gave EVERYONE Massive for free.

That was real nice of them, indeed. I'm not sure how it's relevant though, other than NI are a competitor. Most companies don't back date promos, and for good reason IMO. I think it's harsh to jump on Akai over this. There's plenty of other things you guys could get upset about regarding the Ren, but Akai giving away a free copy of Pro Tools Express to their new customers is not one of them.

IMO the only thing Akai could have done better was improve the communication on this so there was no confusion - i.e. an official statement at NAMM.
