I bought my son an mpc1000. Well I have never been able to get a sound to come out of it on its own. I had ableton lite & got sounds via midi but I have never gotten any sound from standalone unit. I try loading samples & assigning to a pad & if I hit the play it button I never hear a sound. Could I possibly have a faulty unit? Or am i just clueless? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you checked the manual? 1k is compatible with 44.1khz 16bit wav samples (stereo/mono).

yes I have that enabled. And yes 1000 does play wav files. The only time I can get sound to come out of the thing is if I use midi threw ableton. I can not get a sound to come out of the machine all on its own. I think I'm gonna have to take it to a music shop or something :fku:

if it does play wav files are you hearing them or not? put some on the cf, go to load menu and press play/start on one file. Increase volume using the knob. have you hooked your stereo out to some system or have you got a pair of headphones on it?

plz describe your setup more thoroughly next time please cuz we can't guess what's going on with this much of info.

I have the mpc 1000 and a focusrite usb audio interface. I have a yamaha hs80m monitor hooked up to the whole thing. I have never gotten sound to come out of the headphone jack or the actual mpc itself all on its own, the only way Ive ever gotten sound to come out of it was by doing like what was said in the mpc1000 with ableton book u can get off this site & then I was able to get sounds which were picked from ableton. I have never gotten a wav file to play off the unit all on its owni have tried for hours and hours. I have loaded samples & then assigned wav files to pads & nothing, but if I have it interfaced with ableton lite I can trigger whatever sound I have picked in the program

Which OS you got?

Is this brand new unit or used?

Ah, so assign sample to first 16 pads (bank A), press FULL LEVEL button and hit all pads 1 by 1 to check do they work. Still no sound?

Well that would be really sad considering this statement.
