It's Linn vs. Linn.

Image

"Two classic drum machines, both designed by "the father of the drum machine" Roger Linn. The MPC60 is a sampler first released in 1988 and is considered one of the major contributors to the development of hip hop music. The Tempest is a modern analogue/digital hybrid drum machine released in 2011 in partnership with Dave Smith Instruments...We thought it would be fun to bring them both together by synthesizing pure analog drum sounds on the Tempest and sampling them into the MPC60 for that tasty 12bit digital crunch."

Pack contents: 90 WAV files

http://www.boxedear.com/free.html

I've just DL these to check whats there and there are folders containing 20 Kicks, 14 Hats, 26 percussion, 22 Snares and 8 Toms samples. There are also some FREE Roland CompuRythm CR-78 samples and loops which I haven't bothered to check yet. It's a shame these are only in .wav format rather than .snd, but can't complain when they're free.

Lame...24bit/44.1KHz WAV files.

Doesn't look like it is really designed to be Tempest drums to use in your MPC60.

I seems to not be an MPC60 soundset, but a recording of the MPC60 output when playing back the Tempest samples.

More to give the MPC60 sound to the Tempest drums to use in your software sampler, I think?

Opportunity to be way cool missed by not providing MPC60 soundset.

I knew they were .wav, didn't realise they were 24bit (auditioned in iTunes). Maybe if someone sent a polite request to boxedear.com, they might make the actual MPC60 .snd files available.

Since this sample set is 24bit, moved this thread to the MPC4000 forum.

Edit: I sent boxedear.com a message about providing the .snd files, I'll let you know how that one goes.

Yes, already have sent a request for the MPC60 soundsets.

Metatron72 wrote:How about using Awave to convert? It's only 11MB of stuff. But yeah obviously they have them and it would be cool if they let the 60 source files out into the wild.

No problem converting them, obviously.

But then you would be playing back the Tempest recorded into the MPC60, recorded into a computer, and transferred back into the MPC60.

It would work, but would be giving you the MPC60 "12-bit sound" twice, from their original sample/playback/record, and then again from your own playback or their recording, not that it is necessarily a problem.

Would be better, I think, to use their original MPC60 soundset.

..and very soon Ren owners won't be forced to dither them down to 16 bit on export. :)

Always a good thing.

I spent a long time converting my personal library for the 2500, but now it's just drag and drop to the 4K.

Yeah I have a folder on my HD that's like 50GB of stuff I had to dither to 16 bit for the 2500.

4k is lifesaver to avoid that. (Although I convert all manners of things into .akp files for the 4k...watch your inbox brother :-D )

I've just finished transferring your other samples!

I was a bit gutted that the 'Dimly Lit' sample showed up in Shazam... that's a lovely track starter.
