mpk25 dead.

i've had my mpk25 less than a year, worked fine till today. At first, only 3 of the pads worked. Then after I recorded some automation,,when I played back,,,audio was crackled and broken up. The audio was fine when I unplugged the mpk. I plugged in and unplugged several times,,,Now it seems that it won't work at all. The display on the mpk just says
UPGRADE 00
00 SEND SYSEX

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly corrupted firmware. Although who knows how because your usage was as normal as can be. The MPK's USB causing your audio to garble is really odd.

Do you have a USB interface? That is the only way I could see the two (the distortion) being related as they would both be using the internal USB host stack/buss. If there is no USB audio interface involved that's one of the oddest things I've heard of.

To try to re-flash the firmware you'll need the Vyzex editor app. And here's the firmware file. (I don't recall the exact steps but the Vyzex app should have a built in pdf manual)

If you do have a USB audio interface I would unplug it while you run the Vyzex/firmware update.

If you encounter any issues trying to re-flash the firmware I suppose you could use a standard MIDI cable, but the MPK will need a DC adapter. ( Input 120V AC 60hz output 9V 500mA are the specs for a suitable plug)

I only ever had to do the firmware on an MPD and was just an update I had no corruption issue. Bit it did work fine. I hope my guess is right and this info is of some help.

Also if you haven't try a different USB cable. It's remotely possible your USB cable died right at that moment.

thanks for your response. I am not using a usb interface,,just straight into my laptop. Like I said,,I have been up and running with no issues since the day I got my mpk. I downloaded the SYS file from the link you provided and attempted to use Vyzex to apply it to the MPK,,,the whole process seemed ok, but the mpk seems to be stuck with "receiving" on the screen,,,So frustrated

The gentlemen from Psicraft mentions an alternative SysEx app for a user that has your issue.

Dude I realize this kind of thing totally sucks but it's likely gonna be a lot of trial and error. I would suggest going back a page in that first forum link I posted and just read everything in the MPK25 section until you find info that applies or minor"clues" so to speak. In cases like this sometimes it takes finding another owner who fixed it and can explain it based on his experience. (Although someone fitting that description could be on this forum.)

I have had the VyZex editor fail in so many ways over the years. (why I switched to leaving USB out of the editor equation. BTW I failed to mention that 2 MIDI cables are needed their for bidirectional MIDI communication).

I noticed in the one thread they said make sure to disable the receive/send MIDI on all ports and be sure only the MPK25 is selected.

That's a PC SysEx app. Don't know if it won't have the same issue with the firmware dump to the MPK but you have to try everything you can. Wish I could be of more help but outside of telling you starting points where to maybe get more info and keywords I can't offer much not having ever had the issue myself.

Thanks for taking the time to help. I will do as you suggested and start fresh and work through the problem. I have an incident report submitted to akai as well. I will report back when I get this issue resolved.

hey,i want to buy an mpk 25.is it any good ? some people say the pads arent good or the keys pop out

I like the mpk,,,The pads are pretty stiff, but i've gotten use to them,,,have seen that it is pretty easy to Fix the sensitivity issue. After that the pads were good enough. I just bought a padkontrol and intend on using it for any quick paced drumming,,probably just use the pads on the mpk as triggers...transport controls are awesome,,,shitload of knobs are awesome,,,,never had a key "pop" out.. I am a drummer and in know way a piano/keyboard player so I couldn't speak as to how "nice" the keys are. overall I love my mpk.
