using a 4000 for S950/ASR10 sample payback?

Long time MPC3000 user, and am keen to cop a 4000 at some point this year.

question

I want to build a big sound library of S950 + ASR10 samples by recording them direct to my computer, chop and organise them. then later on transfer them to the 4000 and sequence them from the 4000's internal hard drive.

the aim is basically to get a more vintage sound than the 4000 naturally has, but to have the functionality that the 3000 lacks (being able to preview large amounts of different drums before loading them).

BUT am para that the 4000's super clean conversion might take away from the low end of the samples. but maybe that more applies to sampling, and not to playing back of sounds??

anyone attempted anything similar before?

I'd MUCH rather do stuff this way than midi up a load of samplers to the MPC. I just want ALL my drums on a internal harddrive, but with that S950/ASR10 knock.

help anyone?

If you drag and drop the samples from your computer to the 4K, there shouldn't be any noticeable change in the overall sound.

so is it more the sampling that can kill the lows a bit, not the output conversion?

The lows don't get killed anyway to be honest. You get a pretty accurate representation of what you sample into it.

nice one - am always looking for middle ground in terms of vintage sound and functionality.

If you want to be absolutely certain, just fire over a bunch of sounds and I will sample them in directly and send them back to you.
