24 Channel mixer - Aux sends - outboard gear

Hi All,

just thought I would mention a way of setting up a mixer that I kind of stumbled on - I am using a 24 track with 6 aux sends (old school studiomaster mix down). I have found that instead of send the aux outs to the rack gear and then back in through spare line inputs on the mixer - I like to plug the Aux outs into the spare channels on the mixer and put the effects on the channel using the Insert plug I/O. I have found that it sounds really bloody good this way...hope this helps someone - may not be the right thing for everyone. But has a kind of logic to it..

Nice idea but I can't see a benefit of it. You say it sounds better but how could this be? As far as I can see its just another method of connecting cables but the signal runs thru the same stages.

i prefer running them back into channels ( an aux return) so you can get feedback loops going.

If i'm understanding this correctly, isn't the advantage of doing this allowing him to EQ the the FX on said channel strip?

"Line Inputs" sounded to me like channel inputs but he probably ment the AUX RETURNS and I just misunderstood.
