Mpc 4000 slidepot Potentiometer in uk ? or specs

got an mpc4000 here with one dodgy slider on the qlink section , trying to locate an replacement part in the uk or get the tech specs and dimensions of one.

I located them in us but shippings insane and the price feels a bit steep for them considering they are a very standard part in essence.

anyone got a source in the uk ? newmark say they no longer have anything for the mpc4000 and suggested cimple solutions who then told me to contact newmark and tell them to wake up as they stopped dealing akai parts a year back

Its was nice when you could phone a company , get the parts department and they had parts for stuff older than 6 months .

$15 (£10) at MPC Stuff, get in touch with Mike the owner and he may be able to sort you out a deal on the shipping for a small item like that - should be no customs charges on that either. Other than that, not sure of the spec, but typically these things need to be bought in bulk from places like Farnell etc (or a high minimum shipping cost), so you're probably not going to make much of a saving.

I have looked at the service manual, but the problem with that is, that it only gets you the Akai part number. (which is EV-812350J with this description: VR SLIDE RS45112 L15 B103X2 SP)

I did find some stuff searching on those terms and it seems that the same slider pot was used in the MPC2000 and 2500.

Without the parts list you can't get from the Akai part number to "10k ohm slider potentiometer" or whatever it might be. There would also be a manufacturer and their part number that could be easily Googled and found.

It's really crappy because that slider is a bog standard potentiometer, we just don't know the value or whether it's linear or log.

If you were to remove your faulty slider there should hopefully be some identifying numbers or codes on it.

Vst are the cheapest. If you buy through ebay they make you pay for some kind of registered shipping. I asked about this and they said it was because people kept saying the standard P+P shipments went missing. Its worth asking them if they'll do it cheaper outside of ebay. If you send payment via paypal as a gift its your problem if they go missing.

Don't get them from cimple solutions u.k. They are not the correct parts although they'll say they are. There are no retaining lugs and the fader shaft is too tall.

Just a couple of slider pots listed on the web that included part of the number from the Akai parts list. So, not to be relied on unfortunately.

Definitely take the existing one off and have a look at any identifying numbers. Post them up. I actually have a messed up slider on my XL, so will remove it when I get the chance.

I'm afraid that P+P charge is probably right - the last time I tried to get something from Mouser they wanted $30 USD, so it wasn't worth it for a couple of capacitors.

If I get my sh*t together and order a whole bunch of stuff for various projects I will be ok with paying $30.

I would assume places like Mouser aren't massively interested in selling individual components, it must be a PITA to send out packets containing a single 1p capacitor etc, so IMO that delivery charge is pretty much akin to a minimum order value.

The solution is to either club together and buy a bunch, or buy a load up yourself and sell the rest on ebay etc. Or just buy one from MPC Stuff or VST and be done with it.

If we can get a number of people/sliders sorted out for the U.K. then I wouldn't mind to arrange the purchase and send them out.

Payment to me by paypal to include any additional costs. Not interested in profit making, just want some sliders for myself. I'll get 4.

27 is the sweet spot, that's when free shipping kicks in (works out £2.30 each inc VAT), but TBH, if they sell MPC compatible tact switches there, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of takers. I could do with swapping out maybe 8-10 tacts over various MPCs, but may be tempted to get a few extra anyway. I think someone linked to the tact switches on the UK farnell site a while back, would assume Mouser sell them as well.

Maybe we should start a global announcement on this, all interested UK buyers just club together and bulk buy a load of components? I assume people would trust me enough to collect the payments from everyone in advance via the company paypal account, I could then order and dispatch out at cost (price of royal mail 1st or 2nd class, envelope, incoming paypal fees - oh yeah, it all adds up...).

Sounds good to me, if we can get enough people/parts for an order and if you're happy to deal with it as you've suggested then that would be a good way to go about it.
