copying the boot file onto a pc formatted zip and putting it into an zip connected to the mpc2000 classic doesnt work.

Not true.

Two ways to create bootable zip disk

1. MPC format zip disk and copy os from floppy disk

2. FAT-format zip disk using pc. See steps below.

Assuming you have pc and zip drive that connects to your pc ( can be parallel, scsi, usb . . . does not matter)

1. Download 1.72 os to your computer and unzip

2. Using pc, FAT format zip (new would be best)

3. Copy the sys and exe file to formatted zip disk. Bootable disk created.

4. Insert zip disk in external scsi zip drive (must be model z100s2 or z250s) connected to mpc2000

5. Turn on mpc2000 and the zip disk will boot the mpc2000

If this does not work, then there is a problem elsewhere. Nothing wrong with bootable zip disk with os on it.

I made dozens of bootable zip disks when I used scsi zip drives in the past. SCSI card reader is the way to go.
