2000 and a zipdrive

I've only been trying to connect an SCSI zip drive to my 2000 for a couple months now to no avail. Every time I try to format the drive my MPC freezes. Anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

it's a sign... it's doing you a favor preventing you from losing hundreds of samples and projects to the zip click of death.

Throw that zip shit away and never look back, even if you get it to work it will just give you a false sense of security until you eventually loose all your work.

What should i use to store samples on? Or should I just use it as a midi controller? I'm trying to use it in the studio and on live stuff but I don't want to have to run it through my DAW just to play a couple samples.

I would always recommend floppies if you can, cheap and really really stable IMHO if you don't leave the disk running in the machine. Which will cause the disk to corrupt itself somehow, but I've never lost a sound or file on a floppy. And there's always a unanimous +1 for a card reader.

But you cant fit very many sounds on a floppy. Fine in the studio because it's no problem to switch them out and reprogram the pads, but in a live setting?

maybe your scsi fuse is blown, or is the device 'terminated' correctly? i dont know much about scsi, just parroting what ive read around here.

but yea - the zips will fail and having no sounds is worse than loading your sounds slowly.
get a card reader. there are cheaper routes but this is the easiest http://www.mpcstuff.com/2000xl-mcd-mult ... drive.html
worth every penny.

If you know what your doing, then modding probably wouldn't be to crazy. But you'd probably end up paying forat as much as the mpc is worth.

**** regular 2000s only have scsi on the outside.. you have to route that outer db cable into the machine... there are a few ways to do so... the tedious but nicer end result way... or the easy way that doesn't require soldering 25 small wires (**** that)

also, no atapi/ide port on the 2000 classic... you gotta use scsi.


the cheap fix is **** that.. use floppy disks.

ah.. you remember seeing those kits that routed the outside one to the inside? they were like 20 bucks or something like that.. scsiforsamplers had them, maybe mpc-stuff had them too.. im not sure.
