OK, So No 1.3 This Week. In The Meantime.....

So... It's time to replace my Tapco (Mackie) S-8's. With the vintage modes and new 1/2 ring mode on the Ren, that griminess needs to be represented. Based on reviews, reputation, front firing bass port (vs rear) and recent price drop ($699 vs $899), I'm seriously leaning toward the Event 20/20 BAS V3's. I'm considering however, the Event 2030 3-ways and the KRK VXT 8's. My musical style would be a combo of RZA, George Duke, Premiere, Dilla, Pete Rock, Bob James, Muddy Waters, Alan Jackson (Midnight In Montgomery) and film scoring (nutz right?). My budget limit is $1,500.00 but I obviously don't want to spend more than I need to for great results. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Thanks and great find. Don't really want to spend loot on equipment with no warranty though. Saw someone on the Ren forum with the Event 20/20 BAS V3 in their sig. Any advice? Anyone else?

they are supposed to be REALLY nice speakers, i was going to buy them before, but i didnt have the 1k laying around, so i went with some shit ones instead. you should get them

or at the very least, do some more reasearch and check into these more.

yeah, me too.. those are a bit on the low end.. need each one to cost at least the same as an e class mercedes..

Well.... If that's the case, why not buy 2 E-Classes, run line outs from the MPC to line ins on both cars' stereo amplifiers, crank up the volume and mix and monitor in the REAL listening environment?

Seriously tho, it's come down to the Event 20/20 BAS V3's, KRK VXT 8's, the Dynaudio BM-6AMKII (thanks damien907) or a nice set of Genelecs if I can find some that'll do the job in my price range. What I REALLY want is a set of Event Opals. Wifey would MURDER me if I bought those tho.

yeah in all seriousness though, I think you might be smart going to a music shop that has monitors on display.... bring a cd with you that you know.. (something with acoustic sounds if possible.. and maybe something else)

I mean, even though the store isn't your room at home... you need to hear what sounds flattest to your ears by comparing them on the spot at once... most stores can do that I believe. Hell, even if the price is higher at that store.. they dont know you'll leave after trying them out to buy them on amazon

Funny you bring the Event BAS up. I bought them just before last summer, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Solid s**t right here When the 20/20's hit the market Event certainly wanted to give them the image of being suited for Hip-Hop in their promo vids. Even tho I'm producing hip-hop I am running a LOT of different styles on these babies,,, I find that they help revealing the mix in all music I listen to, and I use that to find the right grit and sound, no matter what genre you're in atm. Oh and they go loud as f***!!! And I LOVE loud!

And regarding the other monitors, I think they would probably be good as well. When you get up to this price level you will get your money's worth. The KRK's are really popular in home studios here in Sweden, and most of the people I've met that had these produce straight out EDM and house music. Don't know how it is elsewhere tho... Never had any encounter with the Dynaudio's except for when I decided to buy the Event's instead.

EDIT: Genelec's are solid btw! They are often praised for their clarity, and even the smallest ones do the job. Fact is if your studio is in a very small room those might actually suit you the best

LOL! True, true. Good advice, thanks. Problem is, here in Atlanta I have no idea where to go to listen to these monitors. Guitar Center here is a joke. They only carry the sub $500 monitors in stock. In Chicago I could A/B the good stuff all day if I wanted. Oh well, I just have to do my homework and find a spot that carries more high end monitors. If anyone in Atlanta is reading this, advice would be appreciated. If not, oh well, that's what Google's for. Lambo doors.... HA!

i would just ditch the krk's altogether if i were you, the dynaudio, genelec's and the adams are in a different league imo.

not knocking krk either, as they are alright speakers, but if your looking at these other ones, they will be bettter/flatter.

if your in atlanta, go to sam ash to check them all out.

Wow. Thanks for the advice and user testimony. Although I really appreciate everyone's advice, I was really hoping that a 20/20 BAS V3 user with an "out of the genre box" mentality would chime in. Thanks man. I'm pretty sure that I'll get the Events but a great reference from another forum just advised me that, because of my $1,500 ceiling, I might as well go for broke and get the Focal CM65's. I am in love with Focal's home & car audio speakers but have never heard their studio monitors. As far as size goes, I'm hesitant to go from an 8" down to a 6.5" speaker because of low end response BUUUT... trade off being Tapco vs. Focal . I know that not even an 8" is going rattle your teeth but I've never been a fan of subwoofers in the studio, hence the Events. So, anyone got any Focal CM65 advice/ experience for me? If not, the Events are comin' home baby!

I didn't know there was a Sam Ash here. Thanks damien! Yeah, the KRK's are out. And you're absolutely right. When you start talking Genelecs , Adam & Dynaudio, you're definitely movin on up. As I said in a post I just made before I read your's, a friend recommended the Focal CM65 and compared them specifically to Adam A7, Genelec 8030A and Dynaudio BM6A MKII. He recommended the Focals hands down. I just gotta go listen. Thanks everyone and advice is still appreciated.
