MPC1k do I really need it?

Hello. I've been checking the site for a while now but still can't really make up my mind as to weather I really need one of these babies.
I have only been trying to make music for about a year, using Logic and various vsti's and can't help my cash could be better spent elsewhere!
Basically I'm after a bit of feedback from fellow producers who've seen a marked improvement in their 'sound' using the mpc.
I make techno/elctro/house i guess.

I think everyone needs a hardware music making machine. MPC would be a good thing to get into. Pick a model any model, keep in mind though they have different strengths and weaknesses and workarounds, but they all make music.

You know, I've had really good luck with making some cool beats via Fruity Loops, but man, I want to play music, not just make it...if that makes sense. For example, with the mpc, you get to bang away and actually "play" music, while simultaneously "making" it. When I was making stuff with FL, I was just making it, not playing it.

I know I can get an MPC pad and control FL via midi, but I'd rather have the full hardware. I'm inches away from getting my MPC 1000, and let me tell ya, I'm gonna take that mofo to the coffee shop, gigs, hecka, even take it on long airplane trips. That would be kinda tough with a laptop and a mpc midi controller.

Regardless of what I just said, I guess it just comes down to your specific needs and wants. I sure as hell don't want to be playing a computer at a gig, that's for sure.

Oh, I'm going to. I'm basically doing some web work for this guy, plus consulting him (with respect to his web site) and in return he's buying me the 1000, including most of the fixins (extra memory, CF reader, bigger disks, etc). He has the money to buy it right now, we just gotta handle a few more things and then it's mine. Woooo hoooooooo.

Man, I think about this machine every day.

On a related note, this forum has been a huge help. I've learned a good amount about production, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of XL and 1000.
