I thought that the MPC2000 had the DB25 directly soldered to the PCB, which would prevent it being re-routed without being de-soldered from the PCB, so was wondering how it was re-routed.

Was it an externally connected cable that was routed back into the case somehow?

yeah, you had a db connector, and you could fit it through the smpte port.. if you needed smpte and didn't want to sacrifice it so you could fit it through there... you had to make a hole with a drill. I didn't think it looked pretty personally.. so I never bothered with my classic.... however there were many pics showing the how to for the mod and different mods. Okay, obviously the hard soldering 25 wires way is the slickest, but not anyone can do that.

Sounds like an ugly solution.

Yes, without good soldering/de-soldering skills, and/or good soldering/de-soldering tools, an MPC really isn't the right bit of kit to be frying and lifting traces and pads on while learning.

It makes me cringe reading threads about tact switch replacement by soldering/de-soldering beginners, with burnt and lifted traces/pads to repair as well as a result.

If you don't have the skills, pay the bills!
