3K Hum - Headphone Jack whine.

I have some high pitched whine on my headphone jack on my 3K, and some whine that seems to come from the vent. I've heard problems about phase inverters and such.

But I also heard that the 3K responds badly to poor grounding.

In other areas of my audio, I've noticed my speakers whine a bit (KRKs).

I had a verizon guy come by the other day to fix my internet and while running my tests he said "by the way, you know your apartment isn't grounded?"

soooo that being said....I live in a very old building in New York City. Grounding ain't gonna change.

Anything I can do about it? At least to check that the grounding may be causing these issues and not problems with the MPC?

well I dont see you doing much about getting your power lines grounded if in fact they all are not... I mean... there are a few things that technically would ground the power lines but maybe you shouldn't mess with that.

Yeah, I don't think the grounding will be changing. Was just wondering if there's anything I could put between my equipment and the wall. I suppose a nice power regulator of some sort wouldn't help?

You could use a D.I. box with ground lift.

Well, would putting a ground left between my MPC power help?

I've read all about Phase Inverter issues and display problems causing hum

Turning off the backlight doesn't change anything.

Should I open it up and take a look? If so, what am I looking for exactly?

I had the buzzing a few weeks back myself. I dont recall where I found the info, but there was a write up about tightening the screws all around the mp. Especially one on the bottom for the floppy drive. I tightened every screw on the machine and just like the thread said buzzing was gone. Before you go thru the trouble on that other thread it might be worth a try

Hey I read about that as well. I gave everything a good tightening just now. But I still get the same whine in the headphone out.

If you have a high pitched whine it´s probably from the LCD power inverter or SCSI-cable running near the audio board!

If you got earth hum check that the screws that hold the floppy are tight!

Yeah I've tried turning off the LCD and not having any SCSI connected -- doesn't change anything.

When people talk about tightening the floppy, are they talking about the screws on the bottom, or are there ones inside that need to be tightened as well?
