IS MY USB PORT BROKEN?(definite answer please)

I JUST GOT MY 4000 TODAY AND EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE...BUT I PLUGGED A USB FLOPPY DRIVE INTO THE FRONT PORT WHICH IS KINDA WOBBLY AND WHEN I PRESS UPDATE ON THE LOADING SCREEN IT LOOKS ONLY FOR SCSI DRIVES AND DOESNT LOOK FOR OR DETECT THE FLOPPY?IS IT BROKEN OR AM I NOT DOING SOMETHING RIGHT?DO I NEED IT OR COULD I CONNECT drives TO THE BACK "SQUARE SHAPED" usb port thru some sort of adapter?sorry i just realized i had on caps lock and another thing...my scsi zip drive from my mpc60 doesnt plug in2 the back scsi port...do i need a different cable or a newer model drive w a different cable?thanks in advance

i dont know bout the usb but the zip drive u would need to look in the manual to see what kind of cable u need. Prob a 50 pin or a highdenisty 50 pin. u can also buy a convertor.

According to the manual, the square connector in the back is a slave USB port for
connecting up to the computer, so you do NOT want to use that one.

So you are plugging it into the right port. I haven't connected any external drives, so can't help you too much, but I thought I'd point out that you were using the correct port.

One thing that you might want to try when in the "Load" page, turn the jog wheel, and
what does it list, just the Internal Drive and Internal CD-ROM drive, or does it
list the Internal Drive, CD-ROM Drive & Zip?

The reason why I ask that , is that USB is NOT SCSI, so you wouldn't normally have to
press update, I would think but then again I haven't tried it on the MPC 4000. But USB
typically suports hot plugging, so I would assume that it would just recognise it.

And a quick peak at the manual confirms that, it says that when you connect a USB device that the MPC 4000 will recognize it automatically.

yes the album is great(could u help a fellow metalface fan out and link or send me a copy of them leftovers tracks)? now back to the topic...is this worth getting fixed or is scsi the way to go?are there scsi external HDs i can use or am i really in trouble w/o that usb port?im running os 1.50 could it be that it needs the latest os?
