I want an SP 1200 but damn!!

Grey SP1200 in the house, copped on ebay.co.uk on Sunday 10th, collected on Monday 11th. This machine was on ebay for less than two hours when I saw it as BIN, so I did just that. A little bit of peeling on the protective film, but otherwise ok. Came with the original manual and about 50-60 floppies of dudes drums. Did any of you UK cats even get to see it? Lol. Dude was also selling an ASR-10 keyboard which was of no interest to me.

Now have acquired Drumulator, SP12 Turbo and SP1200 in the last couple of months. Think I'll concentrate on getting the studio back up now and putting in some work, its been a while...

This one takes HD discs without covering the hole, drive has orange LED. Anyone know how to date these machines? I'm guessing its from the original production run? I know how to date the re-issues, but this serial and other grey machines I've seen don't follow the same convention. Model 7030 Serial 097528 (230v)

I didn't ever expect to find one for less than a grand, but I did which is way cool. £980? Thank you very much, I'll take that any day. It was actually 'buy-it-now' or 'best offer' haha. A good investment by any standards.

yea weird i thought the 7030 models were supposed to be the re-issue/black case? And I guess the fuse in the back helps date it too

Most SP1200s are model number 7030 except the last few without the SSM filters which are 7031 from my understanding. If I can get the SP1200 book that may help dating my machine. All those with the black casing are reissues and the date is usually there in the serial number.

You may be able to see from the pics i posted, the clear protective film on my SP facelate has peeled off in places. Is there way to safely remove this clear film, or is it best left as it is? The actual faceplate itself is undamaged, just looks a bit rough around the edges as it is.

what type of film is it? would maybe a hair dryer work? (trying to think of non abrasives)

Yes it can be seen on the right side of the machine and around the trigger buttons. It looks better or worse depending on how the light hits it. I don't know what it is but looks to be a protective, glossy film layer of some sort. I can live with it, just wondered if anyone had experience of removal. I reckon I'll probably flip this machine soon as a later model in better cosmetic shape arrives.

I see a few first run grey SP1200s have peeling film, but the actual faceplate paint/lettering/etc is good underneath. Another example of film peel below, and a minty grey SP1200.




Maybe I'll ask Forat or Renato Rizoli, they've done a few customs.

to the OP, any luck finding an SP1200 (or MPC60) yet?

I wonder if it was somehow laminated and not intended to be removed.. yeah removing it would be great if there was something you could put on in it's place... but that might be a stretch to get it pristine.

Not cheap but damn its clean! + if you factor in 600$ for the book comes out not too bad
