Yeah, I hate that too. Wished the MV had its own dedicated mic input like the SP-303. But I solved the problem with a preamp that has 4 line inputs, 1 mic input and 2 outputs. On those 4 inputs I have the MV, turntable, CD, and Tascam DP01. Then for the outputs, I have one connected to the monitors and the other for the MV to sample any of the 5 inputs. Much better than connecting and disconnecting. Plus with the Tascam, I can connect other instruments and goodies and its all sampled into the MV.

after some long debating on either to go with a mv 8000 or mpc 3000 i went with the 3000 but the guy selling the mv kept dropping the price on me cause he wanted to get ride of it so for 350 i am now the happy owner of both a mpc 3000 and mv 8000 both machines are dope but if your going into using it with a mpc mind set its gonna be a headache thats why alot of mpc users hated it because it was more set for someone who was use to a DAW set -up. if your a maschine user the mv was basically the pre cursor to what your using now but just in a all in one box . but like i said both machines are dope but if your a die hard mpc cat the learing curve might turn you off but if your willing to sit down and learn the mv its got some pretty dope tricks up its sleeve and for 350 to 450 you cant go wrong just make sure you got the 3.54 os installed on the 8000.

Yeah dude, you hit the nail on the head. Maschine users might adapt quickly to the MV than MPC users because they possess the same principles. I was buggin when I tried Maschine at how its MV-like. I had no trouble getting into it.

Still, I prefer a hardware sampler than software because like Dave Smith said, hardware is like holding an instrument, it has personality, you can feel and touch it.

Looking into the mv 8000 after the sp606 I brought had some hardware problems where I had to return it.

I hope some one can answer these in the meantime.

1.Does the 8000 have NDC chopping

2.Has the 3.5 update implemented a scrolling cursor like the mpc in chopping stuff up.

3.The 8000 has a 40g hdd so why the need for the floppy disc, can I essentially just dump samples like on a mpc onto it?.

1. The MVs do have non destructive chopping.
2. No. Unfortunately there is no curser. Instead it has before and after buttons. Plays just before the point your editing or from the point for whatever length you set it to. Believe it or not, this becomes very intuitive and very effective. I jump back and fourth from the mpc to the mv all the time, and both have become such second nature to me that I don't realize sometimes how different the two are.
3. I really have no idea why they put a floppy on the 8000. You can deffinately dump samples and anything else directly to the HD. Probably why they got rid of it in the 8800. Kind of wish they would have put a CF reader on the 8800 just so I could swap samples with my Fantom.

The floppy drive is on the MV because it can load some samples from other samplers.
I forget which ones.

I think you might be able to pop s1000 library floppies right into the mv...

maybe one day i'll check into if it will make use of mpc60 floppies.



My mv-8000 I fixed the issues the other day except for one problem.. the left column of pads are dead (pad 1, 5, 9, and 13) which sucks. It isn't the sensor contact sheet.. it is either the pad PCB or where ever those lead on the motherboard (which I think may actually be the issue)

Everything can still be triggered via midi.. not sure if pad mutes/unmutes can be done via a midi controller though.. never tried it. I just shelved the MV out of irritation. I was thinking.. well maybe there is a busted MV on ebay... then I stumbled on 450 dollar mv-8800s... several of them closing at under 500 bucks. It makes you wonder what's the point in fixing mine.

That site can be uptight sometimes. Plus they always delete valuable info after 6 months which makes newbs ask the same question all over and all over again. Nnitred and the other mods are cool though.
