Not really a price drop. The street price has always been lower than the $1300 advertised price. Most Ren users here paid no more than $1170 for their Ren. Places like MF have been selling the Ren for $1105 for months.

Yeah that's how it goes, I got mine for $1099 back in October. Also when I bought my Maschine a few years ago it was priced at $599 but I got it for $450, the Guitar Center had a $100 off sell for anything $499 or more and I asked them to take an extra $50 off.

I hope Akai gets it together, I mean I know it prolly only cost em a good $100 to make each ren, but these things are gonna lose a shit load of value at the way things are going

If you want to see how Ren prices hold up in the second-hand market, just look to Maschine. I expect Ren will be selling on second hand market for less than $500 this year. If that, considering a fully articulated license transfer process appears to be absent from Akai.

If you're wondering how this applies to the price of new devices, people quickly catch on when they are buying what is essentially a throw-away device. I say "throw away" as a comparison to stand alone MPCs which will have decades of use across many generations of owners.

It's ridiculous to believe the Ren will be going for less than $500 this year on the second hand market. You only consider it a throw-away device because you don't currently own one.

I believe a Ren sold on Ebay for around £500 the other day, which is approx $850. That's the lowest s/h price I've seen.

I don't expect the Ren hardware to hold its value like a standalone MPC, the selling price I assume (I hope) incorporates the license fee for the software, so a lot will depend on what happens regarding issues such as license transfer, updates, upgrades, crack availability etc.

i.e. will people be selling the entire hardware-software package, or will they be selling just the hardware? If only a single license transfer is allowed (and strictly enforced), then the second hand value will plummet. If a crack is available, the perceived value of the Ren 'package' will plummet.

Other factors come into play, especially hardware quality. I know externally the Ren is solid, but it's what's under the bonnet that matters. Only time will tell on that one. I do wonder what serviceability is like.

I would love to see the studio a little cheaper...anyway I'm copping it today as I have to be 2 months away from home and my beloved 1k and ren!!!

False information, Ren MSRP $1999 and street price is $1299, without any coupons applied. if stores drops price to below $1299 without any coupon rebates that's a price drop..there's difference between price drop and disounted item..

but wait im not here to debate or validate the existance of the renn but i will say that for an item thats just a controller the price is high but dropping.You have to figure that without a good OS that had to be antiscipated. I dont see the $500.00 range at the store level because they have to make a profit as well..Question then becomes what are some really lacking that the machine cant make up for with all its advanced features? and the answer to that just might be ( wait for it) TALENT!! because what's really left besides pushing buttons? (please include in that e digging) im not hating on where folks get thier music Im just HIP HOP and believe in the fundamentals.. somebody get on akai's arse and let them know that if they plan on abandoning the renn were abandoning them!!!

I see 2nd hand rens in $800 ball park all the time, which tells me that even 1299 is bit steep and that we could see a price drop to $999 some time this year
