I have read about it, watched a few videos and such, but i still dont get it, is it basically just a rack mount mpc without pads that you use as a midi module?

I don't have one, but it's just an old school, rackmount sampler. Send it midi notes to trigger samples. It supposedly sounds crunchy and warm.

yup, lives up to any 'hype' it has. its not so expensive without the memory upgrade. There's still a lot you can do with stock RAM. analog filters, time stretcher, alternating loops, everything is good about this box.

It's akais professional sandwich line, the 950 had much more cold cuts than the 900 sandwich. But then Numark bought em and switched to wraps and shit....

Its a 12bit sampler from 1988 with a digital low-pass filter, keygroups, looping and timestretch. Great review here from Producers Edge.

You can pick up an S950 for the price on an MPC60 memory expansion, so a lot of people do just that. A stock S950 has 750kb memory, expandable to 2.25mb whereas a stock MPC60 has 750kb memory, expandable to 1.5mb. The S950 has the features that the MPC60 (and SP1200) lack which is why they are commonly partnered together for 12bit beats.
