iMPC + Synthstation question...

Hey all.
Wondering if anyone knows how to get the keyboard of the synthstation (49) to trigger all the pads in the iMPC program. I read the 16 steps function to get the specific pad to switch to chromatic pitching, but I don't see anything about getting the keyboard to trigger sounds.

And is there a way to control the trigger MIDI note for each pad so I can line up the hardware pads more accurately to the on screen, software arrangement?

I don't think iMPC will allow any MIDI control unless it's loaded as a module in Tabletop. The basic Tabletop is free and has the mixer and a couple FX (plus you'll have the iMPC FX). I've already used a 2500 and a MPD32 to control iMPC in that setup. A keyboard should be no different as it will be outputting the same MIDI notes as my MPC and MPD were. (And you don't have to deal with Camera kit, iRig, iConnect or an Alesis dock with your SS49)

I think the first pad is probably MIDI note #36 but I'd have to check again.

Thanks for the reply. I have the iMPC inside of Tabletop and in Tabletop, the Synthstation49 shows up under MIDI and I can even LEARN a single note, but there seems to be no way to tell the iMPC to respond to a straight keyboard for input.

16 Levels pitches the tone up and down, but the keyboard doesn't trigger without MIDI Learning every note.

I can't imagine the Synthstation and an AKAI app don't play nice together.
So I'm hoping I'm missing something very simple and obvious.

You know what man? I think you do have to map every one manually. I just didn't trip off how goofy it was because I was using pads. On 49 keys that would bug me a little.

You have the SS49 MIDI working generally so I don't think it's specific to a quick in the device's operation or you're missing something. A few apps don't work with the Synthstations but those can be made to work with a third party MIDI app. Other than those cases I never heard of an issue like that.

Does it work chromatically by default on the the Tabletop apps with keys? I can fiddle with it myself in a little while but I would be using a MIDI keyboard and an Alesis dock.

Anything with keys works, but so far, the keyboard MIDI maps fine and the internal Tabletop synth was like 37 keys. I mapped and it worked okay. I didn't see an option to extend the keyboard , but eh.....

(This is on a MAC, but I know there is a WIFI midi possibility on Windows too)

Just so you know it will accept MIDI info its just very specific in how it works, Currently I can Run IMPC as an external instrument in Ableton over network virtual midi and use the launchpad95's step sequencer to program it also. (it does involve making a rack with the external instrument and an empty drum rack to work, but it does work). you can of course just use the piano roll to do this (I record a quick midi track with each of the pads pressed then do a fold so I have them all in a row, its fiddly but it works)

Also both the Nord beat steps sequencer (free I think) and the little midi machine (also free) (slightly different but also works perfectly) will give you step capabilities without the need for bridges or tabletop yet again.

Just send notes on Channel 12 check the octave (Starts at C#1) and you can have an ipad step app run it or run it to your DAW easily.

It also means the drum pads work over wifi with IMPC midi also.

The few niggles are the constant screen touching for changing sequences and no way to sync transport that I have found so far, but other than that you can do a lot with it.
