MPC vs. Maschine

Both are great, it all boils down to the individual user and their preferences. We are not all the same though we may have the same dreams. We might share the same machines but what comes out is based on the user not the machine.


We make the machine not the machine makes us. You can make music on anything that you can get a feel of.

who cares what producers are using? don t believe these marketing videos. rza "jumped" on the mv or easki swears that he jumped on the maschine and a few month later he made some vid with the ren..
take a look what on the large list what jorden rudess is "supporting"
a good producer can make a hit on a casio keyboard. just try out which sampler fits with your workflow...

Years ago a friend had some business with DJ Q-Bert. After he went over there he was like, "you know those Vestax tables that Piklz are sponsored by?...He uses one to hold up a shelf in his house and obviously spins 1200's exclusively".

And to the topic at hand, you win with either, sorry no controversy or fanboy missions here. I have the Maschine a few feet away from multiple MPC's. But nowadays if you got skills you can murder it with your phone and a $20 App Store card, and of course it was always the user. We are just are spoiled for choices in these modern times.

I got Maschine, I gave it a good 2 months, and I ended up going back to my MPCs.

Although Maschine was rediculously convenient and quick for sample chopping and pad assignment, I didn't really like the hardware aspects of it. It wasn't very practical for someone who likes to use hardware synths, and I also hated that fact that it didn't have a built in preamp.

I also found that it was extremely hard to use without looking at the computer screen and clicking with a mouse (which is a buzz kill for me). Too many menus that have too many functions that were set up in ways that didn't really make sense to me. I always ended up having to just do things on the computer monitor.

On the up side, the Native Instruments sounds on Maschine are ridiculous. I sometimes use it with the MPC for the sounds...

Sounds like you didn't bother to learn how to use Maschine's hardware. It's definitely not "extremely hard to use without looking at the computer screen and clicking with a mouse" at all. It's the opposite really. It's not even possible with the Ren. The fact is that Maschine was the first and still is the only hardware/software combo that allows complete control from the hardware.

Maschines hardware is really not hard at all. You just have to take some time to get used to it like anything else. In the beginning it was weird for me but now I rarely look up. With that said I could see it being difficult for someone having used mpc's for a while because they are quite different. It reality it is to each his own. Whatever tool works best for you. One thing though. If you were considering the Ren at all I would wait for a couple more updates so they can get the bugs worked out.

That's pretty much what it comes down to. Some prefer a different sequencer. That's pretty much all there is to it. Almost 100% of those who decide maybe they don't like Maschine is due to the fact they want the MPC specific flow, so they made products for those people.

Simple.

Not like it even matters, but if you could choose only one piece, MPC, or Maschine to make beats for the next 5 years which would you choose?

As much as I like the MPC, I think I would choose Maschine. I'm ****ing lazy with Maschine. I don't even sample anymore, and if I do, it's a VST inside of Maschine usually.

I dont like the m....... sequencer either and i made some dubstep on it to boot.All sounds kinda weak to me.Every video/example i heard....plastic texture.imo.Convenient tho

lol. i dont know the sound card specs of the ren but i would put my duet2 with maschine against it any day of the week.

lol. i dont know the sound card specs of the ren but i would put my duet2 with maschine against it any day of the week.

It's one of the EIE Interfaces they put in the Ren. So it's $249 of average Chinese components vs. Cicatrix's Apogee...my money is on the Apogee. (Or an RME, MOTU, Echo...)
