Headphone jack on the MPC5000 not producing sound.

Hi All

I’m at my wits end trying to get my 5K to produce sound from the headphone jack. When I connect headphones to the master output in the back I get sounds (both pads and songs produced)- but nothing from the headphone jack.

What I have tried:

1) Two different sets of headphones in the jack (Bose and Ludicrous Soul)
2) Adjusting master volume up all the way
3) Using two different adapters on the headphones (3.5mm to 1/4in)
4) Connected headphones to my MV8800 (both pair worked fine)

The unit just got back from repair of this problem and according to the tech that worked on it, the phones worked when it left their shop.

do you get any sounds when you insert your headphones about halfway in? - listen to your headphones when you plug and unplug - but plug/unplug slowly until you hear something....

if you do hear something either way, half in/out - that means your 1/4" plug is too long
yes there are some 1/4" stereo jacks that are made too long and sometimes too short.... i have 2 sets of 1/4" jack adapters (3.5mm to 1/4") the one doesn't get sound because it's about a mm too long so i have to halfway have it out - the other one works perfectly, i compared the two and saw the differences in length... perhaps that is what is happening with you?

if so, get another set of quality headphones or adapter

if none of that is the case, then your headphone jack may be busted - you can double check if you feel like opening your mpc case and seeing the actual jack prongs.... see if they even hit the correct rings on your headphones plug.... perhaps they are bent out too far? simple to push back in... etc...

Also something may have worked loose in transit, take a look inside for anything obvious.

This happened to me as well. Come to find out, I accidently disconnected the headphone jack cable from the motherboard. Based on that, I woud say look at the cable and make sure it's seated correctly to the motherboard. good luck!
