confusion regarding tracking out of mpc and input gain on in

I have an interface with 8 inputs each with there respective gain knobs. I'm using the multiple outputs from my mpc into the inputs of my interface. I've heard that when recording you want to boost the gain as much as possible before it starts to clip. Do I do this for each track? The thing that confuses is me, if i do this, wont my levels be all out of whack? (i try to do as much mixing in the mpc as i can)

If I wanted to maintain my levels shouldn't i be giving identical gain to all inputs/tracks?

if anybody can clear this up and tell me the proper way to be tracking out, that'd be a sweet.

To get the lowest signal to noise ratio you should record as hot as possible without it clipping. I usually record to about -6 dbfs to my daw. When doing this you probably need to turn the tracks down in your DAW before summing them.

If your recording each track individual you could mix your levels in the box, or just record everything at the levels they play out of the mpc. Doing this you could build up some noise with samples that play out at low volume.

I find my 2kxl to be kinda noisy, so playing samples out at high levels so you dont have to turn up the gain up too much is probably also a good idea.

Dont soot me, but i think most interfaces have better SNR than most MPCs, so having samples recorded loud (without clipping) and played back loud is the best way to keep that noise down.
