when I load a 909 bassdrum and 909 snare,
should i create one program for each?

you should maybe create 1 program for your drum section

Make a 909 program and you're good.

A few kicks, a few snares, some hats and whatever else the 909 has. Save it to the HD and use it whenever you need.

I kind of end up recording the 909 into 4k each session.

somehow it seems like 4k ad gives a nice punnch to 909!
