A few more VSTs for all our troubles. The four provided are awesome, but we should get a few more just because of the bug troubles we have been experiencing. This will smooth things over for a little while.

How about swapping tracks? You could do that with 2500 + JJOSXL at least.

Say you've written a song, and it has 16 tracks.
You decide to include another main break and you want to be able to do quick track muting between your two main breaks, but one is on track 1 and the other on track 17 so you have to switch between two banks on track mute view, which ain't cool when you want to work fast.
You want to have the newly-made track 17 on track 2 so you want to swap track 2 with track 17.

That can't be done on the Ren, can it?

In track mix we can now switch between controlling (gain/pan/mute/send/insert) parameters. Can you include the master section in that as well please? And The new GUI access to the plug-ins on returns/master?

Thx

I think it'll be dope that once you turn on the Ren that the program opened up by itself without having to click on the program since you can't use the Ren without the software anyways. At least have the option in preference to be able to turn it on to open once the Ren is detected since some do run as a plugin. I run standalone 99.9% of the time.

Similar to how the iPod, iPad, etc s linked to iTunes and when I connect my devices iTunes will open up automatically.

1. LAST UNSAVED SESSION - THE REN SHOULD HAVE AN AUTO SAVE BACKUP SYSTEM THAT SAVES UP TO THE LAST MOVE THAT THE USER MADE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. AFTER A CRASH A SOFTWARE PROMPT SHOULD APPEAR ON SCREEN ALLOWING THE OPTION TO OPEN THE LAST UNSAVED SESSION. (ABLETON LIVE DOES THIS WELL).

2. UNDO/REDO Bug Fix (The undo button is unreliable it randomly erases multiple past moves at times.THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR WORKFLOW SPEED. Usually after the undo function has wiped out the data the REDO function is greyed out and not usable.

3. UNLIMITED UNDO - The user should be able to undo every previous move from the last time the session was opened.

4. 16 TUNINGS This function should be the default setting in the 16 Tunings section in 2013. The 16 Tunings section should have a pop up screen that allows you to adjust the root note/octave range of the sample. (This function would patch phrase the sample at the speed and length of the original sample so the user would not have to enter any tempo or bar length data).

5. 16 TUNINGS AS DEFAULT OPTION Give the user the option of which function can be the default (the first function we see) tunings instead of being set on velocity etc.

6. FILE BROWSER Default Option - File Browser folders should save their positions when a template is saved.

7. AUTO PREVIEW - Auto preview should be defaulted to the on position or give the user the option to set it as a default.

8. TRACK EXPLODE - Convert a track with multiple sounds on it to multiple unused tracks, this is for those of us who program with more than one sound (kick snare and hats etc.). all at once on the same track.

9. FREEZE TO A PAD FUNCTION - The recorded vsti audio on a track is exported and assigned to a pad with exact position and timing. The option to assign the audio to a new program or existing program appears for the users choice. This will save on processing power skip the re-sampling process for faster workflow.

10. VINTAGE MODE EFFECT OR BUSS - the vintage modes should also appear in the effects section to route individual sounds through the various vintage modes. This could also be an option on the track mixer to select which vintage mode the individual track will bus through (example, Track 1 Ring mode, Track 2 - MPC 60 mode, Track 3 MPC 3000 mode etc..

11. REAL-TIME TIME-STRETCH/PITCH-SHIFT FUNCTION - Real-Time time stretch/pitch shift option (see motu mach 5). Once audio tracks are implemented it would be great to have a melodyne type piano roll grid editor where you drag the sample up to take the sample up in pitch and down for lower pitch. The editor should also allow you to click and drag on the end of the sample to adjust its speed (drag left shorter time/drag right longer time). The samples should all adjust accordingly in speed when the tempo of the sequence is changed. (or at least WARP Capabilities).

12. AUDIO TRACKS with great visual and audio tools for recording and editing.

13. TRACK MIXER CHANNELS ADJUSTABLE SIZE - the track width should be adjustable to fit more tracks in view (a minimum of 24 - 32 viewable tracks). (see Ableton Live, Nuendo, Cubase etc..)

14. ADJUSTABLE TRACK ORDER IN TRACK MIXER - adjustable order of the tracks so tracks can be organized to the users liking. example : drums 1-8 , loops 9-10, keys 11-14, samples 15-20 etc..

15. VISUAL TIME STRETCH - IMO Nuendo has the simplest way of time stretching with an on screen view of the sample that the user can click on select time stretch and drag the sample end to a longer or shorter position on a grid. This should be visible while playing the sequence versus typing in numbers speed and tempo.

16. MULTI-CORE CAPABILITIES - for better processing efficiency.

17. 64 BIT SYSTEM.

18. FX PLUG IN AUTOMATION

19. MIDI CONTROLLER TEMPLATE - for the MPC REN to control Ableton Live or other DAWs - Can this be set up currently, I am not sure?

20.. Drag and Drop Midi Files Into The Ren

21.. PURGE SAMPLES NOT USED IN THE PROJECT

22. SAMPLE FILE ORDER - Ability to sort samples alpha-numerically

23. NON-DESTRUCTIVE SAMPLE CHOPPING

24. LOCK SLICES ( see RECYCLE)

25. DROP AND DRAG A SAMPLE CHOP- In sample edit mode develop a method of showing the target program on the same screen and allowing the user to drag to the preferred pad.

26. SAMPLE BPM INDICATOR - Shows the BPM of each sample

27. MIDI CHANNEL INSERTS - for midi fx such as stutter edit etc..

28. PIANO ROLL NOTE INDICATOR - shows which note is pressed.

I know some of these have been mentioned by others but I have a few I have not seen on this forum.

Thanks for all the hard work Dan and all others involved in the development of this product. Keep the updates coming!!

Preview play of the samples in the project information (on the right and bottom of the screen) so when your chopping you can remember which parts are which would be dope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By third Thu Mar 14, 2013 1:12 am
some people didn't understand when i said the chopping features aren't as good as Maschine: (Maschine shows the bpm reading when in slice mode, you are able to edit the chops after they are chopped without losing parts of the sample, when you undo a chop the sample fragments don't stick around, you can delete multiple samples easier) there's another thing that's been addressed already about not being able to select multiple samples in the right program browser to delete, instead if you mess up on a chop, you have to delete the parts over and over. i'm glad you can remove and add slices (only with your mouse) and i hope akai keeps improving and moving in the right direction.

I would appriciate if the normal PLAY button wouldnt have the preclicking all the time. Maybe while pressing a second time that the beat would start directly and not with the preclicking.

1. Totally Agree - 100% Logic Pro Does this as well.

2. This if not fixed yet is the most important then anything!!!!

3. Or at least have up to a certain amount. In Pro Tools, you can set how many undo's you need and it works perfect. I know if you have unlimited, that could wear down the Ram if you have limited GB's. May slow down your machine as well.

4. I'm guessing your talking about 16 Levels. Should automatically be set to 16 Tunings as most people use it for tuning not velocity. If so, I agree... Workflow

5. Same as 4...

6. This is a nightmare. Really need to have the folders either, set up and does not change with maybe a lock icon or save with session as mentioned.

7. Yes, I can see this. I also see why they don't do that because the first sample would play when you pull up the software. Should be an option though.

8. Ah, Logic does this pretty well. They call it 'Separate Midi Events." You can do it by Note or by Events. Very handy. Great for workflow

9. Don't think I would use this but, I can see why you would need it especially if you have a slow Mac/PC. Could come in handy

10. I'm sure this would take up a lot of processing but, good to have.

11. Or at least something that you can easily manipulate on the fly. It's 2013, you can do it in every major software really easy. Even if it does stop the seq, at least make it easy to get to on the fly.

12. Here's were I can not agree, sorry, this will never be that. Don't even think they are going for that. I think they are just trying to make it the best drum machine ever. Not a full fledged recording software. We have already some incredible software that the MPC-R will never be but, they could lock down the drum machine/plugin market with this I think.

13. YES, maybe like Logic/Pro Tools were you can create a skinny version of the channel or a fatter size.

14. YES!!! Either adjust it in the Seq window and the Mixer window follows suit or the other way around.

15. Never used Cubase/Nuendo but, in Pro Tools it's as easy as selecting the stretch tool and stretching it out and the program does the rest.
The knowing the tempo automatically is crazy and know how much you want to stretch off hand is also crazy. Who works like that?
Maybe if you had a BPM counter of some sort, that would help.

16. Agreed. Though I haven't run into any problems but, I haven't used it in that capacity either.

17. PLEASE!!!!!! YES!!!!! ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! AGREED 10000% Especially since this uses Ram as it's core.

18. Yes and more important, Presets!!! Love to be able to create presets for each plugin including the MPC one's. This is a 1999 feature. Come one yall.... ;)

19. YES, I was just asking this as I created a thread for the function. I hate that I can only record when I'm playing Logic. The MPC won't start on it's own as a plugin. Though, now that I think about it, maybe if I pull up the MPC-R Software stand alone and Logic, could I midi like I would a Hardware MPC. I'll try it after I finish here.

20. I thought you could do this already. Never tried but YES if can't.

21. I think you can do this already if I'm not mistaken. Never tried.

22. YES...

23. Oh GOD yes. Please, this is so 2000. Non destructive editing is a must now a days. Can't believe they don't have it setup like this.

24. YES...

25. YES, this is so needed. I haven't tried this yet but, what happens if you already have all your pads assigned to samples and you want to chop a drum loop. What happens when you've chopped it and your ready to add it to your seq but, all the pads are taken up?
What does the MPC-R do?

26. Haha, I mentioned that earlier. That would help big time.

27. I don't use Stutter but, I can see what this is asked for.

28. Ah Yes. Totally need this.

If I may, add to this list of very basic necessities for the user that is coming off an MPC-3000.

29. Please, Please, Please, Add the function to "Name The Track Your Using" in a Seq from the MPC Hardware. I have to go to the software to name the track.

30. Be able to change the sounds on the hardware without having to hit the select soft key every time. You can go through the sounds via the software by clicking up and down but, when working from the hardware, you have to hit the soft key to go to the next sound. Would be better workflow.

30. Being able to go through sounds on 3rd party plugins. Or, if there were a presets option, being able to do that from the hardware.

31. When hitting Rec and Play Start, having the option to not have the 2 bar click.

32. Count In/Wait For Key Option - MPC-3000 feature

33. Being Able to have Select Mode instead of Draw Mode as a default.

So far, that's all I can think of at the moment. Haven't had the time to really dive in to get to know my baby but, the more I do, the more I like, the more I see what's missing.

It's all good.... Thanx

Marc
