Jah, what I don't get is why you'd rather have some elaborate f button, cursor, jog wheel combo to do fine editing when you already have TWO dedicated Q Links (Q1 & Q3) to do your fine editing by single ticks. All those steps you're requesting is already available in a single step.

I have always disliked Qlinks for editing. This goes back to several hardware MPCs that have this functionality.

I prefer the data wheel. It gives you a tactile confirmation of what you are doing. One click equals one increment. Didn't NI change Maschine's knobs to work the same way instead of smooth pots?

This is the MPC workflow that I believe shouldn't have changed. At a minimum, I would like the option to work the way we always have. So not only can I not edit using the data dial in 1.3 (in the same way as every MPC ever created), there is no fine editing or zoom of any kind on the hardware LCD. So it is useless to even have waveform editing on the hardware IMO. Then the waveform is too small...smallest of any MPC with this feature if memory serves me correct.

i think qlinks work fine it took a little getting used to but with the update it's a non
issue now
id rather see highlight wav region and drag to pad that would be superfast editing
feature.

Yeah, I agree that old style Q Links kinda suck! But on the Ren, the 360 rotation makes them 100 times better IMO!

Also, agree about the waveform on the LCD. But honestly, I like looking at the computer screen anyway.

If Akai implements the data dial (yes...I will never stop campaigning for it) in the same way as hardware MPCs, the Qlinks for sample editing would be an after thought.

@Hellfire
If you are looking at your computer monitor, it is pointless to use the Qlinks for editing in my opinion as you can simply insert/remove and move slices with your mouse. This is much faster from my experience.

Also, you can save samples only on the Ren but not from the hardware. Right Click a sample and select save.

It's quicker to add slices from the mouse, yes, if you're adding slices one by one. But it's not quicker to edit them from the mouse than the q links! And it's not really much quicker from the computer, if at all, to add slices by setting amount of regions than it is from the hardware! Either way, slicing with the mouse takes your hands off the controller. I find it much easier and better to trigger slices from the pads than from the mouse!

Yeah, I was talking about from the hardware!

I disagree which is why I am here talking about it. I find it faster to edit slices using a mouse....and I hate using the mouse. Simply drag the slice marker exactly where you want it...accurately. No need to turn 4 little knobs.

If I have to take my eyes off the controller to edit, I may as well take my hands off of the controller. I have been using Recycle for years. So it was only natural for me to gravitate towards the Ren and edit with the mouse. And I do prefer to preview slices using the pads. I am striking a pad with my left hand and adjusting slices using the mouse with my right.

I would prefer to strike pads and adjust zoom (F keys) with my left hand and turn the data dial with my right hand.

And while we are debating this silly topic, sequester cuts are taking place.

I'd have to agree with JAH with it being easier to edit faster with a mouse. This is exactly why I need my scroll wheel zooming. I don't mind taking my hands off the Ren. I've been using DAW for the last 7 yrs so I'm use to this workflow. They might as well just implement all the different ways since they do have open qlinks to be able to do it.

And that sequestration is some bullshit. Congress needs to be ashamed of the poor job their doing right now.

It's not's easier or faster to get precise slices with the mouse without having to zoom in really close. Sure you can do it if you try to move your hand really slow. But concentrating on moving the mouse slow enough to make a precise marker adjustment takes extra time. Zooming in close to be able to use the mouse in fine detail takes extra time, especially with the fact that you cannot zoom with the scroll wheel. The only thing the mouse is faster at is adding slices manually by clicking. But for quick PRECISE edits, there's no way the mouse is faster than the controller, especially if you're using a MBP touchpad!

And I've used Recycle for a a good bit as well. There's nothing at all motivating about using it!

And it's extremely easy to use the Q Links while your eyes are on the computer screen! Any MPC master can operate the machine blind folded!

Anyway, the mouse has no place in the conversation. The idea, and the point of me even bringing up this feature request in the first place in this thread, is to have the fastest chopping operation from the controller, which is what people want more function of. You can argue that it's quicker to do many things with the mouse. But no one wants to use the mouse. So it's irrelevant!

What's the general response like when you're using the trackpad with the Ren software? I use the Magic Trackpad with Cubase and it's a total glitch fest, especially when scrolling up and down the screen.

Music companies need to roll out 'pinch to zoom' as standard across DAWs.

For my purposes, editing with the mouse is flawless especially with the Snap 0 function. I find the Qlinks method slower. Keep in mind that I am a Recycle user plus the fact that I have been using the Ren software without the controller for 9 months. When I finally got the hardware, I used the Qlinks and it slowed me down. Now if I use the Qlinks for editing it is just to use them because they are available. I see no advantages functionality wise. I can't be fumbling around with 8 Qlinks with different resolutions when I can just use a mouse....or my preferred method of using the data dial and setting its resolution (1s, 10s, 100s, 1000s, etc) like the hardware MPCs I am very find of.

Hellfire, you can't convince someone to change up their workflow. I am not advocating losing the Qlinks. I am advocating full functionality of the data dial and adding the Fine Edit menu like all hardware MPCs.
