MPC2000 ext scsi cd-rom

Can you read the files from the burnt CDROM back into the computer with Chicken Systems Translator, does it recognise them, does it provide any information on the disc/file formats that it is reading in from the burnt CDROM?

If it was a wav format problem it would still see the files it just couldn't read them. But you say nothing shows up? Sounds like something with the partition?

No my pc does not read anything, neither with chicken system or cdXtract... like no cd inside

Correct. All the partitions show up but they look empty.

Are you positive your sounds are even in partition a?

Absolutely! I have even searched all the partitions for my files, plus I 've tried adding files to more than one or even all partitions! many kinds of combinations

Well I'm out of ideas, hopefully the creator of the translator can get back to you. I got about halfway to where you are now and realized what a pain this would all be for such little payout. I don't think many people go the CDROM rout.

I don't know anything about Chicken Systems Translator, but I would guess that it should be able to read back in the Akai CDROM that you created from it, and be able to access or at least see the files on it.

I would also guess that if Chicken Systems Translator can not see the files on a CDROM that it just created, that the MPC would not be able to either.

Have you tried using all simple, short, filenames, 8.3 format with all capital letters, just in case longer filenames and lower case letters are causing problems?

I would be concentrating on creating an Akai CDROM from Chicken Systems Translator that it can read back in correctly.

It's probably nothing to do with your problem, but might be worth a try...


Before Windows 95, PC operating systems used a short filename standard, with 8 capital letters or numbers for the filename, and 3 capital letters or numbers for the filename extension.

So, a filename might look like this...
SAMPLE01.SND
or
PROGRAM1.PGM

I have no idea what sort of filenames are allowed on an Akai format CDROMs, but it wouldn't hurt to test it with only short 8.3 filenames.

The MPC3000 disk format allows up to 16 character filenames, with a 3 letter extension, the S1000/3000 allows up to 12 character filenames.

I think that Chicken Systems need to sort you out, there doesn't seem to be enough info in the manual to know exactly what all the various Translator Akai setting are for.

There doesn't seem to be any specific MPC disk format choices in the Chicken Systems Translator screenshots you posted, so where do you choose to format the disk as an MPC2000 SCSI disk format, rather than an S3000 SCSI disk format or something else?

I think you need to find someone that has actually done it, or get some help from Chicken Systems.

But as you say there is some confusion with other format types like s3000, and actually this was my question since the start: what are the correct setting on this screen.
Only someone that has done this can give a specific direction.
