I got live 7 and taught myself today. It's all good cept i wonder if I can send midi through USB to a Fantom XR? It comes up as a device and choose a channel but it does seem to get any messages. I checked my midi setup. I'm using an old iMac.

It's probably something simple but I can not figure it out.

Needless to say if I can get it see the midi I am gonna be able to connect rest of my gear like mpc

NOT quite there yet

yeah good idea to post what is happening so some one else can see if they have same problem. I actually am not sure what it was - maybe just restart, but I have no problem admitting to stupidity either, it happens.

I learned most of Live in a day, a friend has it, and I helped him plug a few synths and drum machines in the other day. So thought I should get it for editing and also remastering.

It is easy to use and seems stable on my old iMac, but it does not do everything I want, like no sys ex :WTF: I am not sure what DAW that can do key changes and the like, Lives midi effects are ok but not perfect instead. no substitute to good music theory anyways.

I have no midi or sound interface that is why I hoped to use the Fantom XR as a midi interface through the USB connection and then to MPC.

On macs of course you add the device in your midi set up. The FantomXR has a setting for the USB so that is set to midi instead of storage, so it knows to listen for midi over USB. I see it in the midi setup on my imac. Then launch Live. I am pretty sure I have to boot in that order so Live sees the Fantom XR. I think this was one of the problems. I see in midi track the Fantom XR in the device drop down menu of the tracks I/O menu. Cool.

Now it gets note info and then that midi note info goes through the Fantom XR into the MPC1000, but it does not get start/stop messages.

Ok the MPC is set to midi clock slave only, mtc off. Hit start and it tempo is slaved.

This is where it gets interesting

So the MPC1000 (JJOSXL) has midi notes hitting it, even some machine control to by the looks of it in the monitor. BUT no start / stop messages are working or recognized at all. And though it seems synced it is not starting at all. I can send that midi through more gear from MPC to? So I am very close but no cigar. Hmm I can try the other way, that is syncing Live to MPC but I want it to go both ways really and make a loop for controller information. I checked Live preferences and have clock on ect and Fantom is in device list. Machine on/off seems to make no difference, and I have double checked that the Fantom is sending through. I mean I can see stuff like midi notes ect and machine code. THat has taken a couple of hours and I am not keen just yet to go the other way as it would mean an another hour or two patching everything an working on it. Later maybe.
