MPC 60 II at last!!!

I guess I'll have to change the sig now. This was a hell of an adventure.

I found it on craigslist. cat lived like a 2 hour drive away. I was able to get him down from 400 to 350. He was a really cool dude. produced a few joints for a few people we all know. But anyways I drove with my wife and daughter for 2 hours to get there and I felt like I was in my own episode of Boondocumented "Road to a Rhodes" ...on the way someone stopped told me at a stop light that my tire was low. i wasnt near a gas station so i continued on to his crib. got there, went in and tested it, talked for a bit (I may end up doing a website for the dude at some point). Came back out with MPC 60 II in hand and this older cat said hey man you on a flat. Damn. took and look and sure enough I was on a flat. the cat who i bought the MPC from was barefooted the entire time, even out on the street, and he went into is garage and got a power jack. i grabbed my spare and he helped me change the tire. then the older cat said go up to this place and get it fixed there is the big ass screw right there... they can fix that. So up the street i went with a donut on my car with my wife , my kid and my mpc 60 II. found the spot and got the tire fixed for $15, tipped the tire cat. and headed back. jeez this killed my whole entire saturday but damn it i got my MPC 60II. Im on some 12 bit shit now. its in good shape too. i need a backlight tho. oh and i want these two stickers gone. i'd love to customize it flat black... blackout.

First order of action buy a big can of deoxit d5 and compressed air.

Gut it open and spray out the dust bunnies. Then take out the buttons and spray the tact switches with d5. Spray your audio outs, headphone jacks, sample in, rotary knobs. First pass with D5 on the tact switches let it air dry then wipe off the D5. Second pass let it air dry again but before it fully dries use a cleaning cloth to tap each tact switch so the D5 gets deep in the contact.

Then put it back together and start sampling drums. The other thing I suggest is when recording get used to controlling the Rec volume with the scroll knob

You can also take out the pads and deoxit your sensors too

cool.. yeah you might need a hair dryer to get the stickers off... it will help lift them.. maybe a clotch and some nail polish remover.. if the glue doesn't come off...

so does it have any upgrades like the ram or latest OS? Also, are you sticking to floppies (taped corner?) or going for the hxc emulator?

Have not checked the Os yet. Sampled into just to check the sound... So sweet. Thanks for the advise fellas. I'll check the Os tomorrow. Sticker half way off. So far no harsh clue

yeah you can see the OS when you turn it on... it looks good though. The 60 is fun...

My thought about the stickers after he told me all the guys he's worked with from Teddy Riley to somebody else or another, I figured all them cats had mpc60ii's at the time so that probably was the easiest way to tell them apart. I'm guessing /reaching. Anyways the stickers must go. Lol

Anyways... I just ordered a solderless backlight. At some point ill cop the roger linn 3.10 upgrade too. But it already has maxed mem as far as I can gather from the amount of sample time available cant recall how much at the moment but last night the sample time was a lot more than the standard 13 secs.

Also, yeah the memory upgrade is good... but you can get buy without it.. often I only use under 13 seconds.. on 2.12 you cant sample more than 5 seconds per pad.. they fix that on the later OS.. also make sure you save your sequence before going into sounds>new sample... you can go in the sounds menu, but not in the record new area.. or else it drops the sequence from memory. (ie: load it back up from floppy when you are done sampling.. or dont start the sequence recording until after sampling.

maybe you already knew all that though.. in the sample edit menu (you dont lose seq data going in there) there is a one click reverse button.. cutting edge right there.. dont forget about page 2 in there.. haha

Good score at a fair price and looks to be in great shape. I don't see any dents in the corners of the bodywork which is the achillies heel of the plastic MPC60II. Some people don't realise just how big the machine is until placed side by side with another MPC. FWIW the MPC60 is far more flexible than the SP1200 with its multitrack sequencer and midi I/O so will be easier to use with your existing gear. Nice studio BTW..

thanks man. never used a mpc60 so i didnt know any of that. and the Craig mac disc had samples but no sequence. EDIT---> seq is there but nothing too much to talk about.


I cleaned her up. she still has a few very minor scratches on the knobs but stickers are gone.

also, you missed getting in a pic of the stop/play/playstart buttons.. the first pic you cant see if the print is worn off cause of the contrast... that is often a fairly good indicator of how much use the machine got (sort of.. not entirely accurate) as well as with pad 1 and 2.. often the most used pad.. you can compare them with other pads like pad 12 etc..

it's cool cause you can assign a closed/medium or pedal/open hat to the highhat pad with the slider.. so you can use the slider as a sort of... high hat pedal type of thing. It has a choke too.
