I do agree with a point Hellfire made. If you actually look at how things are rolling out and how big their team is, some of the feature requests I see here are kinda naive and just not realistic. We just got add/remove slices in an update, and there are people truly disappointed because the Ren can't do back flips and remote control their cars yet. :Sigh:

Whoever willing to pay for updates, want you pay for mines too. I'm not paying for shit 1299.00 should get us all the updates we need for this product.

Alotta cats are holding off until soft reaches 2.0, it may be more of a psychological thing but AKAI need to keep putting them updates out ever 3 months to get there. Its directly linked to sales...

Yeah, it would suck to pay for features and fixes that should've been there since launch. You paid enough. Stop this nonsense of paying because its very Capcomish and sycophantical.

I came to the same conclusion. It prompted me to buy Maschine MK2.

Paid update? Never. The MPC Ren is already more expensive then the competition for what is arguably 'inferior' software. With Maschine you also get instruments like Massive bundled for free. Should Akai's answer to the already cheaper 'competent' competition be to squeeze even more money out of us?

I'm already a disgruntled Akai customer as it it....

A lot of the the high expectations come from building up user's hopes and expectations with lofty wishlist, projected coming attractions, and claims that software releases will be as significant as Maschine 1.5. You can't pump people up and expect customers not to feel deflated when some are feeding the premature speculation for the purpose of promotion.

This is at 1.0 level now but that's still not anything to brag about with PUSH dropping Tuesday and Maschine well ahead of the game. The solution is as simple as Akai committing the necessary resources to make the Ren competitive. If they don't it will be doomed to become the MPC5000MKII by next year.

Less hype, less talking, , more developing....problem solved.

I wouldn't say having more fun as I'm only getting started with it but it's refreshing to be using something that feels mature and stable. Imagine those who jump onto the Ren at version 1.8?? That's how I feel when jumping onto the Maschine. I avoided alot of the early bs.. Also, the manual is deep which means it will take a while to learn unlike the MPC Ren which can have you knowing the thing almost inside out in a weekend.

I got tired of moaning about the Ren when across the boarder the Maschine had many of the things I wanted. It's not my job to persist in persuading Akai to include this or that. They did their job in getting me to buy the thing (hype etc).. but unfortunately they failed in getting me to be satisfied with it...

Like you say, give it a go and whichever one suits you, sell the other... Honestly tho' it's not looking good for the Ren at the moment..

A few things to note if you end up buying Maschine:
-Get the MK2 version, the controller is better.
-The Pads are love or hate (I personally prefer the Rens)
-The workflow is completely different (again, it's a personal preference)

And as you use Studio 1 (as I do):
-You can have as many songs open using the MK2 (and make full use of the mastering projects features) unlike the Ren which restricts use to one instance as you know.
-You can use the MK2 as a midi controller for the DAW & it's plug-ins (with almost every button & knob assignable)
-You can drag/drop your sequences/stems to the DAW directly choosing either Midi or Audio
-You can resize the plug-in in Studio 1 unlike the Ren

As you can see, there are quite a few perks to using the MK2 over the Ren in Studio 1 hence why I went to the 'darkside'..

All that fanboy nonsense is dead to me.

I can understand where you're coming from because I felt the same way with Maschine before version 1.6 because I'm not a big time sample guy and I was basically using it for a drum maschine and I was like dang! I paid all this money for something that's not anything more than a drum machine, I should've just bought a midi controller and used battery. But then when version 1.6 came I was like Yeah, this is what I've been waiting for. I think Akai will make the Ren into something special and for me I love having the Ren and Maschine, version 2 for both of them will probably be crazy dope. Keep both if you can but if you can't then definitely keep the one that compliments your workflow.

I said that, not Tutor.

The only person I know who said anything about anything being as significant as Maschine 1.5 is Jah. Jah is not Akai.

I can't recall anyone employed by Akai stating 1.3 does for the Ren what 1.5 did for the competing product. That statement was based upon my own opinion (non-Akai employee) and I feel is very valid. While some of you just love to bring Maschine into the conversation....it really is no competition to the Ren. Most of those saying that it is don't own one or both products.

As far as paid updates....too early to discuss that IMO.
