MPC 60 II at last!!!

Yo Clint. Has anyone been able to get the usb floppy emulation drive to work on a MPC 60/60II yet?

I'm interested in that USB joint myself moreso than the expensive HxC, just haven't pulled the trigger yet as I dont have any issue using floppies. But I have a 60II with a dead floppy so deciding what to do about that one. If anyone has a floppy drive for a 60 holla at me!

I only bought the 60II to help with my research, so really I should upgrade it to a solid state drive for that reason alone. My 60 mk1 is equipped with a working floppy so its all good. I'll have to check with Gertie to see how the USB install is working for him, I know I can trust his feedback. I've got the required 3.10 OS so I'm prepared.

Surprised how certain people straight jacked that thread promoting the HxC, shouldn't be allowed lol. The price on this USB option is unbeatable.

hey it wasn't the intent.. by hxc, I actually meant all those types of devices that replace the floppy drive with some sort of emulation... I am not sure what that other one is even called.. The idea sounds good though if ever a floppy breaks.. or wears out.. etc. It's a good time to do an upgrade like that before being invested in scores of projects already stored on floppies... (which is why I asked if he was going down that road)


I haven't done so myself cause my floppy drive is like new almost..

oh well I ordered one of those usb floppy emulators.

I have to say that I was just doing some really cool shit with the 60II and the 5000 as an effects processor. low pass filter from 5000 over an entire drum track from the 60II is just plain ole dope.

ok then I figured lets see what the filter factory is like on the 60II. even better. this is the best combo of gear i've ever assembled. I used all original drums created myself. this is dope. at some point i'll make a video

ah okay, I re-read that thread.. someone needs to make a bible/glossary type of thread with the different types, pics of each type, what each one works with (mpc, s-series), OS requirements for the various types.. etc. that would be cool..

I didn't realize those hxc ones were 100+ euros a pop.. that is a bit pricy.

yeah but it's double that price for the floppy emulator drive that fits in a floppy bay.. IE: the one that allows for a clean install... I don't know about you... but I am not really down with sawing a hole in the case of my mpc.. still cool I guess...

it would be cool if it has a floppy drive connector so you could still use a real floppy drive too.. that would be neat.

maybe some day.. but it's a bit of a premium if you aren't **** and have no choice... if you know what I mean.

As i said we are working on a better / less costy models. In fact the new Slim version will be the base for the others models. I will keep you informed if you want.

Regarding the old floppy usage this is already possible : You just need to replace the original floppy cable by another one with a switch/button to change the primary drive. Some HxC users already done this mod in the past.

So hey correct me if I'm wrong but would upgrading to the 3.1 os with the Roger Linn upgrade would make the MPC 60II a 16 bit sampler rather than a 12 bit sampler? if so I dont want that upgrade. i specifically want 12 bit-ness

No. 3.10 is a substantial update, but it's software only.

I get your thinking here, you would be correct if this was all software. But The 12bitness of the 60 is a limitation built into the ADC/DAC so you can never upgrade/change it.
