installin a 3rd hardrive in a pc... whats the deal?

Aight i got 2 hds in my pc allready. i want to add a 3rd. I have an extra power cable in the pc but no more ide cable to connect it. All the ends of the ide are bein used by the 2 hds and the floppy. Would all i do is be able to like daisy chain another cable to the cable in there and just link that to the new drive? this drive is from another pc. it was the only drive in there. i already set the jumpers to slave(i dont know if i should do this though). All i have to do is format it when i get it in there?

yeah , just get a three connection ide cable and you're done .

And people call SCSI old and out-dated. IDE only supports two devices per channel while most SCSI hosts support 7 (and the newer support 15).

The floppy is not on the IDE channel. If you have a CD reader, it is, and may have free connector on that cable.

I have 2 hdd's in my pc, one 250zip and two cd burners.
I use one of the IDE cards for the zip.
On IDE0 is a master hd and a slave burner.
On IDE1 is a master hd and a slave burner.
Zip sits all alone as single drive on the pci ide card.

hmm see now im confused. I dont have any ide pci card like that. The only cable that is in there is what came facotry. theres only connections for whats in the pc. 2 hds, a cd rom, and a floppy. The drive i have is a quantem fireball. There is extra power ports and i do have two pci scsi cards in the pc. Adaptec 2906's. So if there is a convertor to make tha scsi to work with this drive that would work also. If not i should just buy a internal cable with extra ports to connect it from the motherboard.

the CD Rom connector should be IDE and should have an extra port on it.

your cd rom connector is ide but your cable may not have two ports on it
get an ide cable with two ports on it and you should be able to hook up your hd on the cd rom cable

if u have 2 cd roms, and 2 hd's, u can tkae out one of the cd roms and use that port for a hd..

i got a cd rom, 1 20gb harddrive, 1 80 gb hdrive, and 1 floppy drive. So 4 devices from the mother board. I want to add another 30 gb drive to it. so 5 devices in total. the cable that is connecting all the stuff is full. So i should just get another cable with an extra port? so it can do it will esseintly have 6 ports? like one for all the devices and 1 for the mother board. Im just tryin to fig out what i need to get on monday. thanks for all the help.

90% of all the motherboards have 2x IDE for cd-rom and HD's and IDE cables ussually have two connector at the end. The floppy is always on a separate cable. You should hook it up something like this:
IDE 1: HD1 master -----> HD2 slave (on one cable)
IDE2: cd-rom master ----->HD3 slave (on the second cable)

ieism got it right bing. Try that. U should be fine. Floppy is not a IDE device so leave it outta that equation.
