Should I keep my Maschine or buy the REN?

What's going on everybody? I'm new to the forum but I had a serious question. Should I keep the Maschine(first version) or buy the REN? I sat down at a REN today and made a sequence in 3 minutes that would have taken me 10 on Maschine. Maybe the way I work is suited for an MPC. The REN not being a stand alone device doesn't bother me because my first real piece of gear was the Maschine. I just want people's input because spending over $1,000 would be a big blow for it to be a waste.

I think you answered your own question if you looking for a time saver and you like the workflow of the Ren. I've had mine since the 1.0 software version and I've enjoyed it. You just have to make sure it works for you and how you would want to incorporate it in your production.

I say keep both. They both have there uses.

I really appreciate the answers from everybody. The crazy thing Is that as long as I've had the Maschine I've never made a complete track in it. And when I got on the REN I made something in no time. Mind you it wasn't anything game changing but with no sample it was pretty good. But I also have doubts about the REN because I see all the negative things that have been said. And I would keep the Maschine but if I like the REN as much as I think I do then I would never use the Maschine lol.

If you've put in work with maschine, and have alot of projects with it, keep Maschine, and also get the Ren.

NI has proved they will be a force within the industry regardless of whatever new products come out.

Personally i'm hoping they opt for an ASR10 sort of option, with a Kore type of integration, but until that day, Maschine is still here.

I've had mine since it was released, and wouldn't let go of it,just because a new option is available.

think about all the projects you've made, if you have real work in it, don't let go of it.

If you want something that works with minimal bugs, and can handle vsts, plugins, etc better, and also have super easy navigation of browsing preset sounds, maschine comes with loads of quality sounds. Nothing amazing but pretty good sounds. Sequencer is very simple when get the idea of it. Quick and easy to make beats. Good support on their site. Expansion sounds. If you want that go for maschine.

If you want something similar to maschine (as in making beats through a hardware/software combo) the Ren is a good choice. With the current update it's very stable and the Ren has a better sampler section in my opinion even though it lacks bpm detect but I dont use that. The Ren you can add slices and remove them way easier and so many ways to edit samples. Like the maschine, workflow is good once you get used to it but its always getting better. The mpc ren doesnt handle vsts, plugin instruments as good as maschine right now but I think it will surpass maschine soon. Lets not forget the maschine only has 1 midi port. Then Ren has a built in audio interface, preamps, phantom power, outputs, inputs, etc etc etc... The Ren looks better, design feels better the way its slanted, the maschine is not as slanted. Armrest, my man, thats luxury for you. At the moment I think the Ren is better than the maschine but not by too much. The Ren is very straight forward with sequencing also. Very simple, like most mpcs. Both you can get deep into midi sequencing but I prefer the method of the mpc, and their termanology I am used to. I would say go with the Ren because in the past couple weeks it seems the Ren is going to be great, the potential is endless. I got addcited to mpcs, I did not get addicted to maschines at all. I say go with the Ren.

If you arent serious about music and not looking to go broke though, this is a decision you have to make. Is it worth it to buy the Ren? If you are just starting out get a maschine maybe. Save some $$$

I definitely understand not getting addicted to the Maschine. Like I said before I haven't made a complete project and i often find myself picking it up and putting it back down. When I was on the REN it made me want to make something. And yea I'm really into audio, I'm an audio engineer and I'm almost done with all my pro tools certification tests. I still want to hear a few more people's opinions before I make the leap lol.

Both Maschine and the Ren both have their plus and minus and they both are very capable, I would say keep both of them if you can afford it but if not then you have to choose which one suites your workflow best. For me the reason I bought the Ren and use that 95% of the time compared to Maschine is because of the sequencer, the MPC Ren has a much better sequencer (IMO), I just like the idea of tapping something on the pads (16th note hi hats or whatever) and it playback the notes just like you'd expect, but I always had problems with Maschine placing the notes not exactly how I played it.

Exactly!! When I play something on Maschine it rarely sounds how I want it too. I always knew what it was I didn't like but never how to describe it.

Man it is just you it has nothing to do with the machine. Others can do with either, everything is just about which do you feel fluent on and only you know that!

That's not completely true, there is a big difference between the 2 sequencers, maybe not everyone has experienced problems with Maschine's sequencer but I know atleast 4 people (including myself) has had intermittent problems with the sequencer placing notes in the wrong spot, like if I play 8th note hi hats Maschine might place a couple of those notes out of place (and that's with quantize on). This guy at the GC was trying to show me how simple it is to recreate one of the black eyed peas beats so he was using Maschine to recreate it and he tried to program the drums but it kept placing the notes incorrectly so after about 10 tries he state f it. For me there is a big difference between the sequencers, as far as everything else is a matter of preference.

I sold my maschine and am quite happy about it.
I noticed that apart from the software and the sequencer that are out from hell (it is my opinion) the maschine ergonomics didn't felt right for me. I felt it was made for left handed people. Now with the Ren it all feels right...and that is one of the most important things for me.Sequencer and ergonomic, for sure they made me be more creative and inspired.
Also, if you want the movility of the maschine, you should look at the Studio, this thing is a beauty, and also I prefer the pads of the little sister of the Ren, but of course the ren has a lot more buttons.
But that's my 2c!
