So Masada and I thought of another interesting way to access shift functions of the Ren/Studio controller to maximize efficiency. It's very simple. Instead of having to press the Shift button to access the secondary functions of the buttons, the functions can just be a toggle.
So for example, say I currently have my program on Pad Bank B (lit Red). Pressing the Bank B button again will simply toggle to Pad Bank F (lit yellow). If it's already on Pad Bank F, pressing the button again will select Pad Bank B. No need to press the shift button, unless you want to go directly from, say, Pad Bank A to Bank H or something. But even still, you could just double click the Bank D button to get to H from A. Same thing with the Sample Edit button and neighboring buttons. Pressing the Main button from the main page will take you to the Track View screen. Pressing the Sample Edit button while in the Sample Record screen will take you to the Sample Editor. Etc.
The only thing you would really need to use the Shift button for is to Save, Note Repeat Latch, and the different Data Select buttons! This would add a great deal of speed to the workflow because it adds more single hand operation. And the Shift button will still have several uses. To top it off, this feature would have the ability to be turned off in the Preferences menu if for some strange reason someone didn't wanna use it!
