MY MPC4000 SYSTEM CLOCK WON'T ADJUST: WHY?!?!?!

Hey all,

Back again.... The title basically says it all, but in short, I just started messing with my 4000 that i've had for a few weeks now & when I try to adjust the system clock under "global", it is not saving the changes... In other words, it WILL allow me to change it to 96KHZ (my desired system clock rate).... But after I hit the "do it" button, it restarts (just as it states it will) & once i'm back up, I go back to the global screen & it is back on 44.1KHZ again. I've tried it like 8 times & i'm ready to scream because it keeps doing the same thing.

Does ANYBODY know what could be causing this change not to save??? I did notice one of those double-quarter sized "CR" type batteries inside the unit when I upgraded the ram... Does that battery store system settings (such as the system clock settings), which would constantly reset (&/or not save) after power down if it was to die??? REALLY hoping someone can help... Main reason I got this thing was so that I could crank out my drums in pristine 24bit/96KHZ quality (in contrast to the warmer/lower bitrate older units I currently have), but if i'm not able to get it to 96KHZ that would be a real let-down. perhaps check that the "sync in" mode is set to off? get the manual and search for "clock" and make sure all your parameters are set correctly. have you tried changing it to 48khz? as in: the machine won't let you budge from 44.1khz.

also, if you're in there it's probably a good idea to replace the batteries. i have no idea how long they're supposed to last.

Thanks alot man. Sadly I just changed the battery & it is still doing the same thing. Another thing its doing (that I failed to mention in the post) is when I try to set the date, it starts scrolling the months as soon as I exit that screen & the year keeps changing back to 2001... I think I might've gotten screwed yet again by Guitar Center, but thankfully it is still within the 30-day return period. I could sit here & keep fiddling with it, unhook/re-hook everything, but I honestly don't have the time.

Guess i'll just be rockin out with the 2000XL & might cop a Maschine too lol. I also can't get the software/drivers to load on my WIN 7/64-bit computer & i'm not sure that there is any way to update/refresh the OS w/o doing it via USB (which was a last resort troubleshooting step I was prepared to take). Really wanted to have this as the centerpiece of my studio but these issues are a definite deal-closer. Will try a couple more things if I come across them, but if I can't find a fix its going right back to Guitar Center lol. Been having VERY bad luck w/ their used gear department lately!! Out of the last 4 items I bought, 3 of them arrived with issues that the salesperson completely failed to mention over the phone. One day i'll learn to stop f#$%n w/ them

coupla' thangs:

1. you can easily load/reload/update the operating system via the usb port on the front of the machine. just download the os to a flash drive and away you go.

2. take the fvcker back. perhaps there's a reason it was traded in and those bozos at guitar center don't know enough to thoroughly test the machine.

3. don't let this discourage you. i had a maschine and ditched it for a 5k, which i ditched for the 4k. point being: i've tried a few different devices and this one is far and away the best.

Hahaha you know you're right. Yea, I went for the 4K because it just seemed to be the best MPC ever made per everything i've read, including but not limited to the 24bit/96KHZ specs & other unique functions... I guess i've just been having bad luck w/ GC lately. I think their used gear department is just getting really desperate now because they sell anything in any kind of condition without even knowing if it is working properly (can only come to this conclusion after having this happen several times in a row now, back to back, various pieces of gear, dealing with several different stores across the country). Sad part here is the fact that my "salesperson" was quite familiar with mpc's & claimed to be trying this one out shortly before I called in to pull the trigger on it. I'm quite sure he noticed the problems yet still acted like it was working just fine, just so he could get a sale. What a classy guy. Thank God my studio is almost complete so I can finally be done with these dishonest clowns.

Just as a final summary, I was able to save the 1.71 O.S. to CD-ROM & from there I updated the 4000 OS accordingly (it previously had 1.70 installed)... This was basically my last resort before removing my newly-acquired/installed 8 out board+512MB ram upgrade & taking this thing back for a full refund. As expected, the problems unfortunately continued after updating the OS & I sadly removed my output board, replaced the metal panel, replaced my 2 brand-new ram sticks with the old single ram stick & prepared the 4000 for return. I'm really disappointed over this because I SOOOO wanted this to be a workhorse/centerpiece in my home studio... Taking it back is yet another step "backwards", but not being able to change the clock to 96KHZ &/or save any of my settings worries me that my unit is problematic (& altogether just defeats the purpose of me even purchasing it)... Oh well, I tried lol. At least I still have my trusty/mint 2000XL-MCD which has yet to let me down even once... Hey, thanks again man! Really appreciate the feedback/assistance

I had the same problem. if your going to take it back no sense in trouble shooting. I opened it up and clean the inside and reseated battery. The thing is it worked for a while then went back to it old ways. NOW is been solid for a good 5-6 months. There a couple of people who had the same problem. Some ignore and make music
