Ableton 9 and Push Controller looks great!!

Really not one to get too excited over controllers but this is very very sick. So much functionality seemingly. Hopefully the build quality will be up to scratch. I had the larger APC for a while and I wasn't a fan, seemed like a gimmic but this really does take things to a new level.

Nice design too, very in-keeping with the software. No nonsense stuff.

Ableton really is on the ball IMO. Strange how something as simple as a DAW can impact your life in such a massive way.

As well as the controller, Im looking forward to getting Ableton 9.
I didn't think I'd need to upgrade from 8 for a long while, but a couple of things (such as audio to midi) have got me interested.

I had a friend install a copy of ableton 8 on my mac, but I was mega lazy on learning it. (I run poo tools) Recently had a HD crash and dude ran out of licences, so I no longer have it installed... but abletons upgrade policy has me seriously considering purchasing a copy of 9...I'm at the last pro tools version that will support my interface anyways (PT10/003 rack), and I'm not going to get dicked around by another developer (**** you digidesign/avid! )

I saw PUSH and it actually made me interested in Ableton for the first time.

Makes me wonder with all the software / hardware hybrid stuff going on if Apple will change things up for Logic X. It would be cool to have a dedicated controller for logic instruments.

but at any rate abelton and push is intriguing enough to make me want to check it out.

Ableton's a great app and Push looks very well thought out to make Ableton even more an app you almost don't need to think about as you operate it.

Interesting idea about a dedicated Logic surface. 7 years ago Apple had M-Audio do a GarageBand specific controller, so there's a minor precedent there.

I have been a MPC fan and user for years, but I am also a huge fan of Ableton Live. I have used Live since version 5, so I have watched the program mature quite a bit over the years. While I like the idea of what the Ren is all about, the Ren is, in my opinion, stepping into a new realm of competition for Akai, in that it is not a standalone instrument. It is actually a computer software program with a dedicated midi controller.

If you look at the Ren as a computer software program with a dedicated midi controller, then you have to realize it can only be as good as the software itself. If the software is lacking, then the whole value of the product is lacking. The Ren software seems to be missing some of the most basic features that many full grown DAW's have had for years. Because of this, I will say without reservation that Ableton Live 9 with Push is a much better option. Ableton is a mature DAW and will very soon be at version 9. It can already do some things that no other DAW can do.

It will honestly take the engineers at Akai years to develop the Ren software to be any real competition for Live. I'm not really sure if Akai is dedicated to that type of development with the Ren. If the MPC 5000 is any indicator, I don't think it will ever happen.

This isn't a Ren vs Live thread but yes I understand your sentiment. I would think of how Ren could be used inside Live. Drum Racks are cool and the Push gives us the ability to play live or step sequence by the pads. Still if you have both it can be a plus for your workflow or just Live. The melody pitch to notes are the parts that are the most impressive for me. Been down with ableton remixing since ver 1. One of the best music technology in your lifetime.

yeah but with that, be prepared to buy a new controller with every released version.

I was following news about Push like crazy. I had the money to buy the Ren after selling Maschine and the MPC 1k and was waiting anxiously for Push.

BUUUUT, I've asked Dennis DeSantis on Twitter about browsing, since he didn't showed much of it. I was particularly interested in browsing and adding loops.

dennisdesantis: @alexbuga no, there's no clip loading. Push is meant for making new clips with a new workflow. It's not really a Live controller at all.

So at the moment, you can only add MIDI tracks, browse Drum racks and instruments and effects.

I'm sure it'a a dope controller, but at the moment, you'll still have to do a lot of mousing around.

So... I've bought the Ren yesterday from Thomann.de

I'll keep it a month and if I don't like it I'll return it (although, I think I will like it a lot. Having the inputs and outputs on it is a bliss for me as a guitarist). Hopefully 1.3 will arrive on time.

Another day and Ableton Live 9 will be here I`m really looking forward to the new
features and the improved GUI.

I upgraded to live 9. Gonna order push in the next week. Been using live since 4. This audio to midi has me very interested. Dubspot just hosted a live presentation of push.
