Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

being that my usb port in front of my mpc is most likely broken(and nobody can give me a straight answer about it thanks for nothing!!!)could i connect my mpc to my laptop w akaisys and connect a usb hd to the laptop and save/transfer my files off my mpc hd thru that?im figuring its possible being that everything is connected together...so can i do this?use my laptop as the bridge b/w my mpc and my external hd?

Also, are you sure that your USB port is broken. All that I saw was that you had tried
only 1 peripheral (i might have missed a post). You might want to try a couple of
other things to make sure that you aren't running into a specific problem with that one device...


Other then that , have you actually written Akai Support and asked them how to determine
if it's broken? As well as how much it would cost to get it fixed? Might be something
good to hear. Doesn't seem like it woudl be that expensive to fix, if it was broken.

Have you tried plugging a Hub in or something wtih a LED light to see if you get any activity that way?

My Evolution UC-16 powers up through the front USB port, try the UC-16 and UC-33 and
see if it powers up?

Just a couple of ideas..

Nope, can't do that, but I use the USB port to Power it up, so I don't have to bring another
Powercord, when I play live, then I use the Midi out to control the MPC midi cc's with it.
Would be nice, if it did, but not something that I would expect the MPC to do, but at least
it powers it up for me.
