I recently bought some gear for my home setup. I copped an MPC 60, an Emax, an ASR-10, an SP-12 turbo, and a Mirage. I'm not trying to learn all pieces at once, I just wanted to get them all while I had the money lol. I figured I can always get rid of any of them later on, if I decide I don't need them. (Or maybe that's just what we tell ourselves lol.)
For right now, I want to learn how to use the MPC and Emax in conjunction with each other.
I have the two midi'd up handshake style. On the MPC, I have channel 1A and MIDI selected. On the Emax, I have basic channel 01 selected, midi in/thru selected. I tried getting the pads to correspond with midi notes, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but no luck there either.
I know there's nothing wrong with the cords because I had my SP-12 midi'd up to the Emax. On the "Place Sample" page on the Emax, the notes on the screen would change when I hit a pad on the SP-12.
So far, I haven't been able to successfully midi any of my rack units to my MPC. I had the MPC/ASR working together once, but now I can't figure out how I did it. And even then, two ASR instruments would play simultaneously when I hit the pads on the MPC.
What am I not understanding here? To be clear, I'm mainly interested in learning how to hook up the MPC and Emax. But if anyone can explain how to midi the MPC to the other aforementioned units, that would be appreciated as well.
By the way, I've read the MIDI sections of the manuals for all of these units.
