i almost bought the MPC renaissance until i heard about this Tempest.
i love the idea/philosophy of the Tempest over the Renaissance controller because of the real-time/live action experimentation possibilities and the fact analog sounds realer compared to scratchy digital sounds. but based off these youtubes and soundcloud research, the Tempest sounds like a analog keyboard syn but with drum machine pads. i could just loop my Mini brute and do the same thing...almost... the Tempest would just be easier

is this just another experimental syn but with a drum-machine body?

Does it even sound like drums or pass/qualify as a "drum-machine"?

Your first post and you resurrect this thread to tell us you bought a Tempest.
The two products are completely different in what their designed to do. It like comparing an apple with a pear and asking which one is the best.

they are 2 different beasts.
the tempest has 6 voices with 4 osc 2x analog and 2x digital osc.
you can t sample with it....it is on my 'I-want'list.

on the other side the ren is a sampler it can 't produce an own sound unless you sample it.

^just because maschine is a little further evolved dosnt attenuate the comparison between the two machines. Just like if a new wine by brad Pitt came out it would be judged on what wine was around previously, even if wines you compared it too were around for longer and tweaked more :mrgreen:

I have to agree with lamp here, kind of a wonky comparison :|

As for the Tempest vs Ren debate, probably Tempest? It seems to be good at doing what it's supposed to do and appearently it has a lot of potential, the mpc on the other hand makes sceptical, they couldn't even get the Hardware OS right last time, how are they gonna make the jump to software without that **** being full of bugs?
Plus, the Tempest has a compact and sturdy build, the first thing I thought when I saw the new MPC was that it looks pretty cheap... even cheaper than the 2500.


Tempest is nice man. I used one in a local store, spent about an hour on it. The hype around the Tempest is valid, and very real. The majority of the music scene is up in arms over it.


I have to agree about the tempest man. I plan to own one some day. When played with it in person and saw and expert rock it in person I realized this thing is much more than just a drum machine.
