These are functions in 1.3 that are not available from the hardware and that you must use a mouse:

1. Manually insert/delete slices markers at a selected location. *The Ren / Studio does allow you to split or join sliced regions but this is significantly different than samplers like Roland where you can use the data dial to control the sample position indicator and insert/delete a slice using function keys.

2. Browser

3. Open/close Plugin instrument GUI

4. Edit Zones

5. Input/Output Audio device

6. Submixer

7. Name/rename

8. Delete Unused Samples

9. Master Volume

10. Program Edit Audio route

Any other functions that can't be accessed via hardware?

A list if fine, but it's simpler than that. Just try to make everything manageable from the MPC hardware. If it's adjustable/editable in the software, do your best make it adjustable in the hardware - and equally as important, make sure the hardware screen reflects the changes being made (e.g zoom levels on waveforms).

This way, if people choose, they can focus 100% in the hardware and only go over to the computer is they feel like it, rather than having to.

there is no downside to doing this, i dont get why it isnt a priority.. it would only boost sales

I think this is easier said then done. If the Ren's LCD was the size of the MPC 5000, than it would be simpler to implement certain functions from the hardware. But it has an LCD the size of the 2500 and I believe Akai can only do so much. I am not saying the Ren is at that point yet though. But as more features are being added, I suspect it will get very challenging to accomplish everything from the hardware. The fact is, I haven't seen a DAW controller that can access every single function of the software without needing a mouse.

Create new drum program from hw or did I miss that meanwhile in 1.3?
Faster scrolling with start and end points thru a long sample in sample edit mode

Hate to have to remind u again. (And I'm not a Maschine cheerleader) but you can turn the computer monitor off and complete whole tracks with that damn Maschine. They have acomplished everything we want standard on our RENs. Not at all saying its better. Just reminding you that YOU HAVE seen a controller kontrol every and all functions of its host.

The resolution of the MPC2500 screen is I believe half that of the Ren's, so there's certainly more pixels to play with.

I think the key point is to do as much as it realistically possible - I can accept that some things will never be as good on the hardware screen (e.g. sample editing), but it should be good enough for 95% of editing tasks, at which point if I feel I need that extra accuracy or functionality, I can head over to the computer... and use Adobe Audition like I do already with my hardware MPCs :)

for an expert specialist of your caliber you should know most of them from the top of your head. No MPC prior to ren required mouse to do anything, that should answer your question what other functions cant be accessed via hardware

tutor is right. you should be able to just look at LCD and do most everything from that
i think they should make it priority, i think it would get the Ren a more consistent work flow.
after all that's how most envisaged it to be out of the box.
quite frankly it's as plain as day to any original mpc user.
they do it and they will win over alot of heads.

+1000000000000

I agree with what s on the list too because if they were implemented it would feel more natural to me. Since I've had the Ren I've been forcing myself to try to use it hardware only and really have tried to use the software directly as little as possible. Until Recently. Have been changing my workflow and expectations to work with it as it is and I'm finding it's not that bad to use both after all, but I still would rather be looking at the hardware only.

The thing that bothers me is clicking on something in the softwre and there not being a corresponding change on the screen in the hardware or vice versa for some things (not in front of the Ren or my notes to recall specifically...). Feels disconnected at times...
