The legendary sp1200,

Been stored away for the past 6 years as I moved to a computer set up and now I need the money to fund some outboard gear, sad to see it go but some one will make better use for it as its pretty much been neglected for the past 6 years. Note the backlight is not functioning no more, but it powers up and looks to be functioning well. Faders and knobs are smooth as butter. Will include floppy discs...I have had over 10 people contact me having checked ebay to see prices on how much they go the price has gone up due to demand simple rule of economics.

Regarding my name - only recently i just got the oportunity to get my hands on the real thang - after many years dreaming to have one and spend months to get all the info, faqs, sounds and pics about THE Legend - i ve finaly have it here now right beside me

So let me share some of my thoughts :

- It is very light - i was awaiting much heavier unit with this dimensions
- you r´ lost if you havent got any diskette with it like me..
- after using daw and the MPCs / 2kXL, 4k / this is like an ancient calculator from
the past - which you oparate by entering numbers!
- The sampling isnt easy if you want to get good samples - the whole proces is
much complicated then on the mpcs - including steps to avoid any hiss, nosises as
it has to have a clear routing if you have all the sources in one mix ( i was sampling from 4k to the sP ) - also try diferent gains and you hear what you are actually sampling in just distorted way!? So it easier to actualy hear what you have sampled after the sampling - and with try and fail - i have made some very good samples.
- very good samples after a very old style of truncation, to cut the tails of the sounds.
- the sequencer is very simple - forget about undo it is more about programing first the bars, lenght - after that you can get creative..

and now to the HIGHLIGHTS :

- THE GROOOVE IS F@*/NG AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! a KILLER
everything you create get immediate GROOVE almost funky - it becomes MUSIC.
you can hear why are some clasic hits sounding as they are. THIS is thing alone is
worthy to have a SP in your musicweapon arsena!

- the sound is punchy and grity but warm - but dont await that you put shity samples and get diamonds automaticly - with some tweaking i ve got razor sharp
heavy hardhiting drum kit that was trustworthy to all the LEGENDS about this maschine.

- I know that the old fellas had to use the SP by it self becasue of the limited
sources - BUT - if you mix it whith another sound input / the 4k in my case /
IT BECOMES GOLD!!! It get its own place in the headroom and it a SYNERGY efect - means that the summary of two powers create - more than just a sum of the two elements.. It is very inspirational!

If i could afford it right now i would keep it forever - just for the groove and the easy mix control while the sequence is playing / 8 faders to control volume of individual sound and you can bulid an aragment on the fly /.

I think it is not for everyone especialy a kid who awaiting instant gratification automaticly just by holding an SP - but the one who can grind this old stone
can get a shiny diamonds - and u know what.. diamonds are forever

the black reissue on ebay sold, it was listed at £1800 I don't know what value it sold at but it was probably close to asking price .

the german sp1200 that looked like a lot of repairs and tweaks were done to it so I presume it was in bad shape as the floppy was a white one, screen was replaced and I think faders also google translate helping here sold for 1400 euros inc shipping

Messaged the other dude on gumtree his got a buyer for £1800 that will pick up on the 17 , but if he can get £1900 he is happy to sell to someone else.

plus it seems a lot of dudes are on the same hunt for a sp1200 ,

How many total production units of the sp1200 grey and how many total of the reissue's were they made?

As it seems the sp1200 is like golddust.

another question how many sp1200's on average are there in Europe?

Europe seems to be the worst place to be in while hunting for a sp1200.

I Suppose the value of the sp1200 will only get higher as its 30th birthday is due in a few years I need one any users with any tips to acquire a sp1200 holla at me.

I was investing quick money to the SP becasue there are not many of them apearing in this part of europe and after all those years i had to have it even just for the try..

So I have a black reissue model without the red fuse, model 7030 - so it dont get hot as the old units. The display, butons, pads, faders
are all 100% working without hiss and scratches. Got printed manual, 2 booting disketes and 10 x clear 2DD disketes. It is in 9/10 condition and ready to find a good home*.. I need to get back at least 1500 GBP but can ship only inside Europe or UK, tracked, insured..

Yeah, it's very clean considering how old it is. If I can get the screen swapped out for a bright LCD it'll make a big difference. I'm struggling to read it in low light at the minute.

The 1200 is for serious enthusiasts with deep pockets. I can do what I want with 5 seconds, so I'll stick with the 12.

switch mode power supply vs linear

The OG Grey gets hot but knowing from my studio gear Linear power supplies are a lot more desirable and are far less noisy then switch mode supplies.

How the hell is the reissue's got a better power supply with SMPS if the only advantage is reduced heat vs more noisy and injecting natsyness into the audio path.

I think this issue alone is why im shooting for a OG grey.

@Jimmie it will only get worse as time progresses, im on the same hunt as you, like Clint said prior sp1200's are very rare here in the UK especially for buyers , US guys have a healthy selection on ebay but UK/Europe Nada.
