So I have my mpc 1k hooked up to ableton via usb to midi cable. I am recording and editing some clips in ableton live before sending them to the MPC because I find it much easier to edit that way. So my question is, what is the best way to do such things?

I feel like there are two separate ways, albeit one a little more time consuming. One, is midi clock syncing the mpc to ableton. Hit play in Ableton and arm the midi track on the MPC. However, sometimes the notes seem to record as I'm guessing there's some latency. So then I have to re-edit the same midi clip in the MPC.

The second option being the "Export Midi Clip" function. Which can just take time to connect the MPC to the computer. Transferring the file is fast but it takes awhile for the MPC to load onto my PC.

If you have ever done this - please let me know your way of working or perhaps possible suggestions for me. Other than recording/Midi clip editing/effects - I don't use ableton live for anything else - just hardware.

yes and yes - that is the answer.
IMO you should sync. for many reasons, least which is that it will run together and you can play with MPC and Live at the same time. You problem with this and pretty much every DAW is the latency ect, from jitter and other things. So in Live there is track delay, set this to compensate. Also add a count in or a blank bar, try things so that it all starts together in time.

Sencond, you should get a USB hub and then you can have the MPC plugged in all the time, and then you can mount it when ever you want by going to the load or save screen, then USB mount. It will come up in the Live file manager even. This will mean you can see the MPCs drive mounted and save to it directly when you export a midi clip. Then you just eject the drive, go to load and its there. It takes a few seconds for me, in fact I am doing it now as I write.

Thanks for the pro tip. I didn't realize you could manage mpc files through ableton live. I do know about latency and perhaps I need to adjust for it again. I will go into that live set where it shows you how to adjust for latency again. Something like plugging your output to an input of your audio interface and recording back into your interface with the same clip. Last time I want to say my interface had adjusted for latency already. Is this plausible? Is adjusting for midi latency the same as adjusting for audio latency?

Whenever I mount my MPC to the computer it takes some time to load for some reason. It's not as quick as say a usb thumb drive or external hard drive.
