Sup people. Having a massive issue printing audio from MPC 1000 (JJ OS1 v4.99) into Pro Tools 10.3.2 via MIDI Beat Clock. I can control the MPC through the DAW and record, but there is always a small offset before any audio is printed (varies between 50-150ms depending on DAW hardware buffer size). Even after applying that offset measurement into the DAW settings there is still a small offset (10-15ms).

I picked up an Innerclock Systems Sync-Gen 2 Pro a couple of months ago, and although it has tightened up sync there is still a small offset. So to clarify here, I'm not using my audio interface MIDI clock (RME Fireface 800) and instead using the Sync-Gen clock. I've been doing varying tests recently, if I completely bypass the Sync-Gen and use the audio interface MIDI clock the offset is significantly higher. I've swapped out MIDI leads and tried different MIDI ports but the offset persists.

I can monitor the lag directly if I monitor a DAW click and the MPC click simultaneously. Without any offset adjustment there is significant lag, but I can get things close to tight with a high -offset of around 900ms which is pretty extreme.

Any suggestions here? Am I doing something wrong? I almost at the point of walking away from MIDI altogether and just print audio in real time into my DAW. The only other thing worth mentioning is my audio interface is connected to my external HDD via firewire 400, and the external HDD is then connected directly to my MacBook

Have you tried using MTC? Are you leaving a blank measure or two for the two devices to catch up with each other? What about recording directly to the Macbook HDD instead of the external HDD?

you have to dial in the offset to account for latency through the system as well but the 900ms number sounds way off. I think my main rig is like 82 samples offset. it should be a small number of samples. So its been a bit since I tracked midi in PT, but what about PDC settings. maybe that is tripping things up. I would email David. Sync Gen should work well for what you want to do.
