0 Megabytes Installed?

Hello everyone. I was cleaning my MPC2000, put everything back together & now it won't recognize the ram I've installed. Well actually it's been weird before this cleaning. Sometimes the MPC would say I have 21 seconds of sample time & sometimes 201 seconds. Now I have none.

thats strange. The 21 seconds are the normal 2MB ram that is build in the MPC. It should be accessable always so open up the MPC again and take out the extra RAM and see whats happen without it.

Alright so I do have 2 MB without the RAMs. With RAMs I have 0.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

Bad ram? Really Dirty connection? Im guessing it goes from two to zero because your machine over rides the 2mb standard ram when you plug in an expansion, so if the 32mb ram is funky you get nada.

Hmmm I do have 2 sets of RAMs. Hopefully they both are not bad. I will clean MPC again later though. Thanks

If both 16mb sticks aren't working mabye it's something with the PCBs?

Probably. I see one on MPCstuff for $150. The thing is I'm selling this MPC but I don't want to sell it if it's broken. So I lower the price & explain the RAMs situation. If no one buys it I will pick up a PCB.

Yeah it's still useable which is good, but I think the ability to use extra ram is pretty essential. I'd try mucking around with it a bit before you buy a new main pcb.

i really bet it is is bad ram.

2x16mb simms have to be super cheap - just get some new ones to test.

+1. This is the only way it will ignore the on board 2MB. I'm confused though I thought the OS disk would have to load onto the RAM(where else? ).


For what it's worth you can try the RAM test screen:
SHIFT+7(mixer);
open window;
shift+0;
F1

Hey I did the wave memory test & I got "no wave ram!" I'll have to pick up some new simms.
